Zero Discrimination Day: 01 March Zero Discrimination Day is observed every year on 01 March. The day aims at highlighting the urgent need to take action to end the inequalities surrounding income, sex, age, health status, occupation, disability, sexual orientation, drug use, gender identity, race, class, ethnicity and religion that are prevalent around the world. It was first observed on March 1, 2014. Zero Discrimination Day is significant to organizations such as UNAIDS that work in combating discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS. Former France President Nicolas Sarkozy convicted of corruption In France, Former President Nicolas Sarkozy has been convicted of corruption. Judges found Sarkozy guilty of trying to bribe a judge and of influence-peddling and sentenced him to three years in jail, with two years suspended. Sarkozy, who led France from 2007 to 2012, has denied any wrong-doing, saying he was the victim of a witch-hunt by financial prosecutors. He has 10 days to appeal the ruling.
Principal Scientific Adviser to GOI launches Swachhta Saarthi Fellowship The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India under its Waste to Wealth Mission has launched the Swachhta Saarthi Fellowship. It has been launched to recognize students, community workers or Self-Help Groups, SHGs and municipal or sanitary workers who are engaged in tackling the enormous challenge of waste management, scientifically and sustainably. Targeted to encourage community participation, the Swachhta Saarthi Fellowships invites applications from students and community workers who have done previous work or are currently engaged in waste management activities, including awareness campaigns, surveys and studies. NHAI creates world record by constructing 25.54-km road in 18 hours The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) completed a single lane of the four-lane stretch of 25.54 km being developed between Solapur-Vijapur (NH 52) in 18 hours. This record will be recorded in the 'Limca Book of Records’. Hyderabad-based construction company IJM India carried out the construction work, according to media reports. About 500 contractual workers worked hard for the project. The fourth edition of Prime Minister’s interaction Programme Pariksha Pe Charcha will be held this month. The programme will be held virtually. Through this programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a brainstorming session with school students, teachers and parents in connection with the upcoming examinations. The registration process for the programme is underway on MyGov platform and it will remain open till 14th of March. The participants of this programme will be selected through an online competition on MyGov platform. 3rd Janaushadhi Diwas 2021 celebrations being held from March 1 to 7 The 3rd Janaushadhi Diwas 2021 celebrations commenced on March 1, 2021. It will be a week-long celebration starting from March 1 to 7. As part of the celebrations, Jan Aushadhi kendras conducted more than 1000 Health Check-up Camps across the country on March 1. Senior diplomat Manpreet Vohra has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to Australia, the Ministry of External Affairs said on March 1. Mr. Vohra, a 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, is presently Ambassador of India to Mexico. The Sports Ministry in a letter to the GFI president stated that the elections of two office bearers -Sudhir Mittal as President and Kaushik Bidiwala as Treasurer for the term 2019- 2023 have been taken on record of the Ministry.
BJP MP Nand Kumar Singh Chauhan passes away BJP MP from Khandwa, Nand Kumar Singh Chauhan passed away in Medanta Hospital, Delhi-NCR. He had tested positive for COVID19 and was undergoing treatment at Delhi. Chauhan represented the Khandwa seat in the Lok Sabha since 1996, barring a five-year period of 2009- 14 when he lost to Congress' Arun Subash Chandra Yadav. He was also the BJP state president of Madhya Pradesh till April 18, 2018, before being replaced by Jabalpur MP Rakesh Singh. Thaawarchand Gehlot to launch “Sugamya Bharat App” & handbook entitled “Access - The Photo Digest” Minister for Social justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot virtually launched “Sugamya Bharat App” and a handbook entitled “Access - The Photo Digest”. Sugamya Bharat App is a means for sensitising and enhancing accessibility. It provides for five main features of which four are directly related to enhancing accessibility. The handbook is envisaged as a tool and guide to sensitise stakeholders about 10 basic features of accessibility and related good-bad practices in easy to understand pictorial form.
