A Message From Our CEO Dear Business Partners, I would like to take the opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year! We got off to a great start in 2022 - welcoming the largest trade agreement signed - the RCEP. This will open up a new chapter for regional economic and trade ties, opening up new market opportunities as demand for logistics services rise. This along with other completed and developing infrastructure projects within the region such as the Laos-China railway and ASEAN Highway Network Project will facilitate the seamless movement of goods across the region. With our joint ventures in both Laos (Sinotrans-PLG) and China (YPL Chongqing), PLG is well-positioned to handle all your regional logistical needs. In 2021, global supply chain disruptions did not deter Singapore from maintaining its position as the world's busiest container transhipment port and top bunkering port. Singapore's container throughput reached a new high of 37.5 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and achieved a total sales volume of about 50 million tonnes for refuelling (only a second time in history)! Although the disruptions will persist in 2022, PLG can help you minimise such disruptions to your business. Our strong global partnerships and strategic warehouse locations near both Changi Airport and the upcoming Tuas Mega Port will be able to help you facilitate quick turnarounds and expedite your shipments. We look forward to 2022 and we believe that it will be a year filled with exciting opportunities. Have a prosperous Lunar New Year! Yours Sincerely, Mr. Kelvin Lim Founder and CEO of Pacific Logistics Group 2
Local & Regional News Penetrating Niche Markets In Eastern Europe PLG was featured in Lianhe Zaobao as one of the four Singaporean companies that entered the Eastern European market, including our joint venture with YUXINOU to operate railway freight services connecting Europe and China. With the Eastern European market differing largely from Singapore in terms of culture, language and business environment, Mr Kelvin Lim, founder and Group MD of Pacific Logistics Group, advised local companies looking to enter into the market to find a suitable local partner. Given the upcoming Belt and Road initiative, and that rail has been a viable alternative amidst the disruptions faced by sea and air freight during the Covid-19 pandemic, he is optimistic about the potential of rail freight. Should popularity in rail freight continue to rise in Eastern Europe, PLG will consider strengthening its capabilities in the market. In addition, we are strengthening our Laos’ operations to build a complete bridge of services between ASEAN and Europe, connecting Asia and the World. Read the full article here. 3
Transforming In The Midst Of The Pandemic With the Covid-19 pandemic accelerating transformation, close to 14,000 local enterprises received subsidies from the government to aid in their business activities. PLG was one of the local enterprises and was featured in this Lianhe Zaobao article. We utilised these subsidies to streamline our operational activities and for the exploration of international opportunities. We had to pivot and focus on expanding our other capabilities when Covid-19 hit, improving our warehouse management capabilities and introducing end-to-end food logistics services. With the unveiling of the China-Laos railway, we are strengthening our capabilities in the region (particularly in Laos) to be a key logistics partner connecting Europe, China and ASEAN.
