European Regulations placing a complete ban on animal testing for cosmetic purposes (CE n. 1223/2009). The Regulation improves the safety of cosmetic products sold in EU by strengthening their safety requirements. It simplifies procedures for companies and competent authorities in the sector, updates the rules for taking into account the latest technological developments, including the possible use of nanomaterials, and keeps the ban on animal testing in place. To this end, it is crucial to provide an understanding of the scientific bases of these regulations and up-to-date information to students in biomedical sciences. It is also important to contribute to the training of technicians/researchers already operating in the cosmetic industry, emphasizing aspects of eco-sustainability. Finally, the consolidation of collaborations between biologists, chemists, ecologists is a must. The course is run by the Italian Centro3R, Interuniversity Center of the Promotion of the 3R Principles in Teaching and Research. Sponsors: -2-
