L et me begin my address sharing a slice of inspiration through the words of UN Deputy- Secretary-
General Amina J. Mohammad during a digital meeting of the Forum’ COVID Action Platform on
8th April. She said “we are facing a human crisis unlike any we have experienced”and our “social fabric
and cohesion is under stress”! As the world wrestles with the unprecedented implications of the COVID-
19 corona virus pandemic, I pray, trust and hope that you all are managing well the challenging times
we are currently confronted with.

The month of April is all about the new start for the classes UKG to 8th. Our school has tackled all
challenges that have risen in the past few months. Needless to mention, our immediate precedence
is the well-being of our students along with continuing to deliver quality education through
equipping and training our teachers in using digital tools, innovating educational content and actively
communicating with parents has been our concern presently. In the face of this extraordinary
struggle of existence and survival, the team of Smart Wonders School has proved well that learning
doesn’t stop at the gates, for we have empowered ourselves to impart education across the walls and
premises of the school.

As the Principal of the school, I urge you all to embrace the forthcoming events of this exhilarating
journey with enthusiasm, eagerness and positivity. ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’ The cloud of this
pandemic too would nonetheless torrent away and the silver lining would gleam for sure.

Thank you for your continued support and let’s gear up for the upcoming term!!!

Induction Program
Induction day is the first day of the academic term in which children have the opportunity to know
their classmates, meet their teachers, and participate in some introductory activities. This kind of
induction program can ease the transition from the previous class to a new class.

Monday, 5th April 2021 was the day when the students embarked on their journey in the Foundation
Years. The students of class UKG and 1 were excited to join the virtual class and overjoyed to see
their classmates and meet their class teacher. The class educators welcomed the students and
involved them in a number of fun filled activities.

The students thoroughly enjoyed listening to stories, trying tongue twisters, treasure hunt and so on.
Each student participated with zeal and enthusiasm in all the activities. It was a pleasurable day
for the little cherubs to remember.

       Know Your Constitution- Quiz
The Indian constitution is the world’s largest written constitution which provides an excellent framework for
governing the world’s largest democracy. It nurtures the aspirations of the citizens, and is a true living
constitution as it gives the widest possible amplitude for the realization of both individual liberties and desires
and at the same time enforces the need for a collective growth and development.

Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar's contribution to construct the entire concept of Republic of India is immense. He was
later appointed to draft India’s first Constitution to which he obliged, and thus the Constitution of India came into
existence. To honour his contribution and service to the country and commemorate his birthday, a wonderful
initiative was taken by the Social Science Department of Smart Wonders School, Mohali by organising a
Constitution quiz on 12th April to engage the students of classes 9 and 10,with the “Know Your Constitution
Quiz''.

This was the Preliminary Round which consisted of 50 questions both objective and subjective. The top scorers
will qualify for the Final Round. It was mandatory for all the students to participate. The aim was to sensitize the
young minds and make them aware of their duties and become active participants in the progress of our nation.
We celebrate Ambedkar’s Jayanti on 14th April to commemorate his birthday. Marking this significant day and to
pay tribute to Dr. Bim Rao Ambedkar, who is a key stone in framing the document which ensured India’s
complete transition towards becoming a Republic, a wonderful initiative was taken. Sharing pictures of our
young enthusiasts from the preliminary round of the Quiz.

Baisakhi Assembly
Festivals bring joy and happiness in everyone’s life.
Baisakhi is an important harvest festival of Punjab that has
religious value as well as it commemorates the formation of the
Khalsa Panth. A special assembly on “Baisakhi” was conducted
on 12th April 2021 with great enthusiasm by the students of
classes 3-5. The motive behind the assembly was to apprise the
students of their culture and heritage.

The assembly began with
Mool Mantra which is the essence of the Sikh teachings. It filled
the minds and hearts of the participants with positive energy.
Students, then confidently enlightened the audience about the
significance of the festival. It was followed by a musical
composition and the National Anthem.

Harvest Festivals of India
“Plant smiles, Grow laughter and Harvest love” (Class 8)

Harvest festivals are believed to be the oldest forms of festivals around the world.
They are a way of thanking nature for the bounty it offers in the form of new crops.
In India it's that time of the year when we can catch a glimpse of India’s diverse cultures.

The Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western parts of the country celebrate
their first harvest festival of the year with vigor and fervor and our students of Class 8 too
celebrated this diversity in their online assembly held on 12th April 2021.It was a beautiful
experience to see children dressed up in colorful attires representing a particular state. They
exchanged information about the festivals of different states and got to know that maybe
language/name of the festival is different but the spirit is the same.

On 13th April every year Baisakhi is celebrated in Punjab, Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, Bihu in
Assam and Ugadi in Karnataka. Children prepared dishes to mark the festivity and realized the
importance of local ingredients. Beautiful dances, songs and poems were shared to celebrate
diversity of Indian culture. Vice Principal Mrs. Raina Chona addressed the students and motivated
them to follow the motto-“Eat Local and think Global” which is good for our health as well as the
economy of the country also. Let us all say no to packaged food and enjoy- Sweet Yellow
Rice, Kada Prasad, Pysam, Ugadi Pacchadi, Shrikhand and Petha.

 Table Manners
“A man’s manners are a mirror in which he shows his portrait”
Teaching table manners to children is an important part of meal time that will help them thrive
in social situations throughout their life! As some aspects of growing up may never have to be
taught with words or lectures, similarly manners can never be taught by just talking about them
but by watching, learning and practicing them.Displaying appropriate behavior at the table and
following rules becomes an integral part of learning this life skill. And once they learn, these
 habits will benefit them forever.

To inculcate good table manners in the students of Foundation Years, we organized an activity
for classes UKG, 1 & 2 on Table Manners and Etiquette. Students were asked to be ready with a
table mat, cutlery and a cloth napkin. Educators started the activity by showing a PPT on Table
manners. They discussed the rules to be followed on the table. Students also shared what they
practice in their daily routine and also learnt new rules. Students enjoyed the PPT and also got
a chance to enhance their cognitive and psychomotor skills. Later a questionnaire on table
manners was shared with the parents where they have to observe their child and make him/her
follow the rules properly. The Coordinator and the class educators were amazed to see the
involvement of the students while doing this activity in the class.

              Handwriting
Handwriting is an essential life skill. As toddlers, children start with drawing and scribbling
and move on to forming letters, words and sentences. It helps them to develop reading and
spelling skills too.

To emphasise the importance of neat and legible handwriting, an English Handwriting Activity
was organised for the students of classes 3-5 on the very first day of the new session that is
7.4.2021.The teachers helped the students to pen down beautiful prayers in their notebooks.
Students prayed to the almighty as they wrote right at the beginning of the new session.

Here are a few pieces of their work which showcase how well they have mastered
the handwriting skills.

Story Telling
“A good story can imbibe the right values at the most impressionable age.”
Children love stories. Stories are magical; they can create another world, emotions and ideas.
Storytelling is one of the most effective ways to communicate with the students. Story telling
encourages students to explore their creative expression and is a never ending journey of
learning.

To foster the skills of listening and reading, a story telling session was conducted by
the educators for the students of the Foundation Years. Educators used colorful props to
engage the students, followed by a captivating story. The session brought language learning
alive and created a participatory and immersive experience that allowed young learners to
enjoy hearing the language in a dynamic and entertaining way. It was an interactive session
which was thoroughly enjoyed by the students.

Earth Day is celebrated all over the world on 22nd April every year to pledge support
for environmental protection. An activity 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ was conducted by
the students of classes 4,5 & 7 on 12th April, 2021 to kick start the Earth Day celebration
on 22nd April. The students created beautiful art pieces and creative items using
old/waste paper and cloth, available at their home. They participated with full enthusiasm
thus discussing the need to recycle and reuse the waste material as it is rightly said-
‘Recycle today for a better tomorrow’. The main aim of the activity was to raise the
awareness among the students towards the protection of the environment and focus
on the need for conservation. Here are a few pictures of the students’ work which

“Waste isn’t waste un l we waste it!”
The students of class 6 prepared very creative and innovative items from different waste
materials, available at their home. They used reusable and recyclable materials like
newspapers, shoe boxes, old CDs, empty plastic bottles and much more. The activity
displayed the creativity of the students and developed a sense of love for the environment.

Children took all waste material lying at their home and created usable products,
decorative items etc. Such activities done in the classes instill awareness about harmful
effects of the waste and knowledge about sustainability. Children were taught to be
responsible consumers for the future and in order to create something
new, resources should not be wasted. Sharing some pictures of our happy

   Poem: Life
    Life is a journey of
    Ups and downs
    It makes us happy sometimes,
    Makes us frown other times.

    It makes us accept things,
    Which are unacceptable.
    It makes us do things,
    Which are not do-able.

    Life is truly a game,
One mistake can cause great pain.
But if you'll play it wisely,
You will sail through it nicely.

    And there’s a secret,
    To live life easily.
    That is to smile,
    And think positively.
