April Monthly Newsletter 2021 Know Your Constitution- Quiz The Indian constitution is the world’s largest written constitution which provides an excellent framework for governing the world’s largest democracy. It nurtures the aspirations of the citizens, and is a true living constitution as it gives the widest possible amplitude for the realization of both individual liberties and desires and at the same time enforces the need for a collective growth and development. Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar's contribution to construct the entire concept of Republic of India is immense. He was later appointed to draft India’s first Constitution to which he obliged, and thus the Constitution of India came into existence. To honour his contribution and service to the country and commemorate his birthday, a wonderful initiative was taken by the Social Science Department of Smart Wonders School, Mohali by organising a Constitution quiz on 12th April to engage the students of classes 9 and 10,with the “Know Your Constitution Quiz''. This was the Preliminary Round which consisted of 50 questions both objective and subjective. The top scorers will qualify for the Final Round. It was mandatory for all the students to participate. The aim was to sensitize the young minds and make them aware of their duties and become active participants in the progress of our nation. We celebrate Ambedkar’s Jayanti on 14th April to commemorate his birthday. Marking this significant day and to pay tribute to Dr. Bim Rao Ambedkar, who is a key stone in framing the document which ensured India’s complete transition towards becoming a Republic, a wonderful initiative was taken. Sharing pictures of our young enthusiasts from the preliminary round of the Quiz. Smart Wonders School 06

Monthly Newsletter April 2021 Harvest Festivals of India “Plant smiles, Grow laughter and Harvest love” (Class 8) Harvest festivals are believed to be the oldest forms of festivals around the world. They are a way of thanking nature for the bounty it offers in the form of new crops. In India it's that time of the year when we can catch a glimpse of India’s diverse cultures. The Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western parts of the country celebrate their first harvest festival of the year with vigor and fervor and our students of Class 8 too celebrated this diversity in their online assembly held on 12th April 2021.It was a beautiful experience to see children dressed up in colorful attires representing a particular state. They exchanged information about the festivals of different states and got to know that maybe language/name of the festival is different but the spirit is the same. On 13th April every year Baisakhi is celebrated in Punjab, Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, Bihu in Assam and Ugadi in Karnataka. Children prepared dishes to mark the festivity and realized the importance of local ingredients. Beautiful dances, songs and poems were shared to celebrate diversity of Indian culture. Vice Principal Mrs. Raina Chona addressed the students and motivated them to follow the motto-“Eat Local and think Global” which is good for our health as well as the economy of the country also. Let us all say no to packaged food and enjoy- Sweet Yellow Rice, Kada Prasad, Pysam, Ugadi Pacchadi, Shrikhand and Petha. Smart Wonders School 10

April Monthly Newsletter Monthly Newsletter 2021 Table Manners “A man’s manners are a mirror in which he shows his portrait” Teaching table manners to children is an important part of meal time that will help them thrive in social situations throughout their life! As some aspects of growing up may never have to be taught with words or lectures, similarly manners can never be taught by just talking about them but by watching, learning and practicing them.Displaying appropriate behavior at the table and following rules becomes an integral part of learning this life skill. And once they learn, these habits will benefit them forever. To inculcate good table manners in the students of Foundation Years, we organized an activity for classes UKG, 1 & 2 on Table Manners and Etiquette. Students were asked to be ready with a table mat, cutlery and a cloth napkin. Educators started the activity by showing a PPT on Table manners. They discussed the rules to be followed on the table. Students also shared what they practice in their daily routine and also learnt new rules. Students enjoyed the PPT and also got a chance to enhance their cognitive and psychomotor skills. Later a questionnaire on table manners was shared with the parents where they have to observe their child and make him/her follow the rules properly. The Coordinator and the class educators were amazed to see the involvement of the students while doing this activity in the class. April Monthly Newsletter 2021 Poem: Life Life is a journey of Ups and downs It makes us happy sometimes, Makes us frown other times. It makes us accept things, Which are unacceptable. It makes us do things, Which are not do-able. Life is truly a game, One mistake can cause great pain. But if you'll play it wisely, You will sail through it nicely. And there’s a secret, To live life easily. That is to smile, And think positively. By Sanah Goyal Class 7D Smart Wonders School 29
