Growth over Gaps Oviedo High School Principal’s Weekly Update April 18, 2022 Prom came and went in a wonderful celebratory way! The security measures we included went smoothy. Specifically, wanding was very efficient, working with the Orange County Sherriff’s Office was effective, and the hotel security and employees were also helpful. We did use the Group Me app to communicate with all the working administrators and chaperones. When there was a concern regarding a person attending who was ill, students notified me allowing us to help that person. I commend that senior for realizing that the young person needed help and stepping up to get it. “See something. Say something. Do something.” is a great slogan that does work and is our best tool for providing a safe and secure environment. I also would like to commend our student body. Sapphire Falls remarked several times to the working adults that our Lions were the best-behaved students they have ever had. On a personal level, the last two weeks have really hit home with me. It has been a clear reminder to me that I have only been the principal of OHS during a pandemic. The first OHS chorus concert I saw as principal was last week. When I walked into our prom venue ballroom and say our students eating in a beautiful Van Gogh Starry Night, it brought me to tears. I am very thankful that the students were able to enjoy prom, their senior week, and the Honor Grad Ceremony. I’d like to give a big thank you to Ms. Finnegan and all the workers! Congratulations to Kianna Scott and Eli Whitehouse for being named the 2022 Prom Queen and King! Thank you to our parents that organized and worked at our Senior Breakfast! A special thank you to Betsy Jewell for being the main contact and organizer. Title One Florida, LLC donated the white paper and pens and the coffee bar that the seniors loved! Thank you!
Last weekend in Dayton, Ohio, our Oviedo Varsity Winterguard competed at Winter Guard International World Championships. They competed against 40+ teams in the Scholastic Open Class division.
