We hope this will be a time of connection and friendship. If you are interested in attending or would be willing to host, please sign up at downtownpres.org/women. Diaconal Assistants In the weeks ahead, we will be sharing with you about implementing assistants for our deacons. This is a resource which our Book of Church Order provides, and which will help us care for our church family more effectively.
Reflections Costly grace is the gospel which must be sought again and again and again, the gift which must be asked for, the door at which a man must knock. Such grace is costly because it calls us to follow, and it is grace because it calls us to follow Jesus Christ. It is costly because it costs a man his life, and it is grace because it gives a man the only true life. It is costly because it condemns sin, and grace because it justifies the sinner. Above all, it is costly because it cost God the life of his Son: “Ye were bought at a price,” and what has cost God much cannot be cheap for us. Above all, it is grace because God did not reckon his Son too dear a price to pay for our life, but delivered him up for us. Costly grace is the Incarnation of God. - Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship ...I bid farewell to all my dear fellow-sufferers for the testimony of Jesus, who are wandering in dens and caves. Farewell, my children, study holiness in all your ways, and praise the Lord for what He hath done for me, and tell all my Christian friends to praise Him on my account. Farewell, sweet Bible, and wanderings and contendings for truth. Welcome, death. Welcome, the City of my God where I shall see Him and be enabled to serve Him eternally with full freedom. Welcome, blessed company, the angels and spirits of just men made perfect. But above all, welcome, welcome, welcome, our glorious and alone God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost; into Thy hands I commit my spirit for Thou art worthy. Amen. - John Nisbet (1627-85), a Scottish Christian, in a written reflection, as he anticipated being martyred

Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. (Rom. 12:10) Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. (1 Pet. 4:9) So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. (Gal. 6:10) Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. (Gal. 6:2) Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. (1 Thess. 5:11) But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. (Heb. 3:13) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. (Col. 3:16) ...addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart... (Eph. 5:19) Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. (Rom. 12:16) I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.
