THE CRAFTY ARTIST Newsletter of the Ballina Arts & Crafts Centre Inc. APRIL 2021 PRESIDENTS MESSAGE 2019 – 2021 BACCI has survived another 2 years. Who could have predicted what has happened to the world since 2019. We here in our area have been very fortunate and going into ‘lock down and following COVID rules’ was all we could do. Hopefully lots of painting and craft work was done. We are slowly ‘creeping out’ having just enjoyed our fantastic showing at the NRC Gallery. (Cancelled 2020 and held Feb/March this year) Sold 2 paintings and 8 craft items, with wonderful feedback. EXHIBITION CO-ORDINATORS WORKSHOPS REPORT The Curious Kookaburra in Keen Street Lismore has a few workshops if any BACCI Only a little over a month away until our next members are interested. At the next meeting, Monday 29th March, we will be discussing ideas for the exhibition. It would be great to have some enthusiastic people to be involved with promotions and helping prepare some letters to help with our fundraising. We are revamping some banners from 2019, to hang on the Council approved frames, which is such a great way to share our exhibition news with the public. At the AGM the Exhibition Co-ordinators The Artisan Gallery in Ballina position will be vacant, and it is a very rewarding job. Let me know if you are interested or you want to know more. So, we have a month to plan for the Joseph Zbukvic exhibition, so come to the meeting and share 4 day watercolour workshop your ideas. Her most recent works are abstract landscapes that ARTISTS PROFILE are drawn from the colours of the area she lives in KAY KNIGHTS and informed by the patterns and shapes seen on many walks on the beach and in the bush nearby. She layers flowers over the top - that bring colour and symbolism to each work. You can follow her on Instagram at kayknightsart or on Facebook Kay Knights. Kay is an Australian contemporary artist who lives and works on the east coast of Australia in the coastal town of Lennox Head in northern New South Wales. Inspired by her experiences of her garden and the natural world, her artworks explore the landscape and both wild and domestic animals. A multidisciplinary artist, her art practice includes both oil and acrylic painting, printmaking and Message from Jenny Unwin. sculpture. I helped host our annual Clean Up Australia Day at Murwillumbah Community Garden 7 March. We made a small dent in the mountains of weeds since the rain and collected lots of small plastic pieces from the sites. A great day and I'm looking forward to next year. Jenny is having her first solo exhibition out at Blue Knob Gallery during April. Titled 'Wood and Metal'. She is very excited. It’s a lovely gallery, and they also have a great café.
