Good News March 2021 Lenten Symbols During the season of Lent we seek to grow deeper in our faith, and we have some won- derful educational opportunities for all of our church family. Members of our congregation are reading books for our young disciples and we are sharing the videos online and via email. Stories we will hear include "The Boy who Shared His Lunch" and the story of Lent. We will also learn about Easter Sunday in April. If you are interested in reading a book to our young disciples, please let Karen Finney know; each of the books come from the children’s library at church This is a great opportunity for us to teach and learn together! ...Continued Members read Bible stories online See pg. 4 for Lenten Study details We also invite you to participate in our Lenten Study on the book “Embracing a Life of Meaning” with author Kathleen Norris. Each Tuesday at noon Elizabeth will do a Face- book Live and then email the video out to the congregation. Wednesdays at 6:30 pm we will have a Zoom follow-up discussion on the topic for the week. It will be a time for us to explore what it means to follow Christ and what our lives mean as believers. And of course learning isn’t just about books, but it is also about creativity and na- ture! Mr. Duke will be teaching our youngsters and their families how to make bird- houses on Sunday, March 14th after church. (You should see him dancing a jig in his in- struction video.) We look forward to seeing the homes our kids create for God’s beau- tiful birds. If you want any more information on any of these programs, please do not hesitate to contact Elizabeth or the church office. Blessings on your Lenten journey to draw nearer to Christ.
The World Day of Prayer is Friday, March 5th Growing in faith as part of a faith community is integral to life with Presbyterian Women and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). In addition to Presbyterian worship and participation in PW, many Presbyterian Women groups and individuals nurture their faith ecumenically through World Day of Prayer. World Day of Prayer is a global, ecumenical movement of Chris- tian women who pray and act for peace and justice. On the first Friday of March every year, Presbyterian Women join their prayers and voices with women in more than 170 countries and regions. Each year, a different country that participates in World Day of Prayer serves as host country, writing the worship materials and compiling re- sources about their region’s culture, history and faith traditions to edu- cate women in other parts of the world. As women unite in prayer— asking God to relieve suffering, bring healing, mend brokenness, overcome barriers and bring peace, justice and well-being—they give to an offering that funds grants for the host country. Through World Day of Prayer, women affirm that prayer and action are inseparable and have immeasurable influence in the world.

Your generous donations have made it possible to help those in need. Thank you for your kindness. We are continuing to collect food on the first Sunday of each month for the Standing Food Pantries around Jacksonville. The donation basket will be out and ready for your donations on March 7. Lent in a Bag Lent is a season when many people focus on enhancing their ever-growing and loving relationship with God. Christ’s life, ministry, and death are remembered during this season. It’s also a time to think about how God is with us all the time. You may do this through prayer, reading the Bible, helping others, or something else. Anything that connects you to God is a great practice. Even walking the dog, seeing the green grass, or hearing chirping birds can be a way to com- mune with God. The worship committee has prepared bags that include a Lenten calendar and objects which can encourage thoughts, meditation and conversation. Families can use the scripture, reflections and questions as the Spirit leads them. Many families have al- ready received their bags; if you did not get one and would like one, please call or email the church—or notify any worship leader or usher at the next worship service.
