SIZE - SUBSTANCE - SIGNIFICANCE WELCOME TO CHRIST COMMUNITY CHURCH - JULY - Let’s revisit the verse: ‘how much more will those REIGNING who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life’. IN LIFE The secret to reigning in life, is receiving grace and the free gift of righteousness. It’s not about what we do, it’s about what we receive. It’s about grace. Christians can easily drift into thinking they are There are a number of expressions about our closer to God and more righteous because of how well victory as Christians in the New Testament – 2 they are doing. Or conversely how far they are from Cor 2:14 says God ‘always leads us in triumph in God by how badly they are doing! But the Christian Christ’, Romans 8:37 says ‘in all things we are life is by grace from first to last. Paul’s favourite more than conquerors through Him who loved expression for describing the Christian life is being us’ and finally my favourite Romans 5:17 which ‘in Christ’. While we subjectively experience times of says ‘how much more will those who receive closeness and intimacy, we cannot actually be any God's abundant provision of grace and of the closer to the Lord than we already are. We are united gift of righteousness reign in life’. I love that with Christ, and this is all of grace. idea of ‘reigning in life’ – not ruled by life, The expression ‘falling from grace’ is an interesting somehow rising above. one. We might think it means doing something really sinful or not going to Church anymore. But look at You might think the secret to reigning in life is how Paul uses the phrase in Galatians 5:4 ‘You who about godly habits or having a powerful are trying to be justified by the law have been experience of God’s love. Or that perhaps we get alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from this victory when we surrender everything to the grace.’ To fall away from grace, is to approach God in Lord. All those things are good but they are not your own good works and performance rather than the secret to reigning in life. relying on Jesus.

We have enjoyed welcoming back Kat, Harry, Alicia and Alex from uni too. The transition from home to uni is an exciting but also challenging time, and so being able to gather these young people together to share experiences is invaluable. Being able to worship and pray together for each other and for those we hope to see come to know Jesus reminds us that we are not alone, and that we can bring God into every area of our lives, wherever we might be. Please continue to uphold them all in prayer as they make preparations for the changes to come.
We give thanks to our Lord for His favour and provision. Not only has the Treasures team been blessed with two new recruits – (welcome Esther Forbes and Jane Jones), but in addition to securing funds needed for our year plan – we have secured even more besides! (Thank you Sharon for all your hard work in fund raising). It is truly amazing to be blessed so richly enabling us to continue in our work with the elderly of our community. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - With the lifting of restrictions delayed until July, the Treasures team decided that our Treasures folks needed a little bit of encouragement. To help lift everyone’s spirits, another Random Act of Kindness was made at the end of June. This time it was a small bar of handmade honey, lavender and beeswax soap. Not only do they smell divine, honey and beeswax are known for their antibacterial properties – and we all need to keep washing our hands to keep COVID at bay! Thank you everyone who helped to make personal deliveries to our members. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - STOP PRESS - It’s National Afternoon Tea week August 9-15th Treasures members and volunteers have not been able to get together since the last coffee morning in February 2020 and even now after vaccinations, members remain a vulnerable group. Current restrictions allow for up to 30 people to gather together outside. The extra funding recently awarded enables us to finally bring our members together safely in an outdoor event this coming August. Plans are still being formulated but in principle we intend to hold several afternoon teas for groups of our Treasures folks across four consecutive days in a garden, during National Afternoon Tea week, within the government restrictions. This is significantly more work for the volunteer team, but the safety and wellbeing of our members is paramount. We would appreciate extra help and if you are willing to lend us a hand on one (or more) of the four event days (Aug10- 13th), it will be very much appreciated.
