7’s Perspective
DEAR PARISHIONERS,
EASTER BLESSINGS!!
The joyous season of Easter continues. How I wish that joy could permeate our neighborhood, our city and
indeed our world. What a broken world we are living in. The value of human life is so diminished in parts of our city
and world. Our kids have such bright futures, the best education affordable, safe neighborhood to ride their bikes
around. We are blest.
What type of summer will we experience in a few weeks?
This Saturday, May 1st we will welcome our 2nd graders around the Eucharistic table for the first time. The girls
will be dressed in white dresses and the boys in their Sunday best with their hair combed and shirts tucked in. The purity
and innocence of the children will be on full display. The day is full of faith, hope and love. Faith as we gather in
Church, the great hope we have in these kids and the unconditional love they receive from their parents and families.
An innocent day, I pray will be grace filled. If only we could hold back time.
Today is Good Shepherd Sunday. This title for Christ was easy to understand especially for the early Christian
community. The sheep knew their shepherd’s voice alerted them to return home. The stragglers were found and returned.
How I wish life was that simple. There are so many voices and distractions that compete for my attention.
Soon our building will be completed, the fencing will be taken down, and landscaping added to beautify the
area and a new normal will have been created. Only at Barnabas in the midst of a pandemic could an awesome new
structure be built that reminds all that the future is bright. We are blest.
PS. May 1 is Father Kennelly’s 60th anniversary of his ordination. He has had a very challenging year. Currently he is
residing at St Benedict’s nursing home in Niles. This is the North Side retirement home for priests. He was at Bishop Lyne’s
Home in Palos, his family and friends realized that more of his classmates lived there. The Archdiocese has 2 retirement
homes for priests. Both facilities try to make their lives as comfortable and managed as possible. It would be wonderful
if you could please send him an anniversary greeting.

is a seasonal (May – October) and flexible position (12 - 15 hours/wk) seeking a hard
working, self-starting adult. Tools include riding mower, gas push mower, and edger.

Reconciliation: The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated on Saturday afternoon from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm in the Church or by

Religious Education: Grammar school students who are not attending Saint Barnabas School are encouraged to register for

Sacraments of Initiation/RCIA: Those of catechetical age are baptized and fully received into the Catholic faith annually at the

Marriage: Call the Rectory to speak with a priest about making arrangements 4 to 6 months in advance.
