The Kapiti Kiwis are Flying The Kapiti Kiwis are the latest in a growing group of networks that have formed under the Neighbourhood Connections banner. Here are some snaps of them having a games day in their new club rooms in June. These games include Myth busters, Chess and Giant Jenga. They have been very keen to get back together as the Alert Levels have lifted. As they get to know each other they have discovered their skills include construction, musician, artistry, quizzing, creative writing and public speaking. Their facilitator Brian has specialised in making slushy iceblocks” Follow our stories on the Neighbourhood Connections Facebook page: ConnectionsNZ 6
Movie Review - by Louis Paulin My favourite movie is Sister Act Deloris was a singer Deloris saw her boyfriend do murder so the Police made her hide in a nuns convent. She had to pretend to be a nun. She looked after the nuns choir. The choir sings much better songs Cool songs and people come to listen. Sausage Sizzling: The Fantails and Tui Networks The Fantails and The Tui Network Working together at Mega Mitre 10 The Tui Network and The Fantails came together to do a BBQ sausage sizzle at Mega Mitre 10. Both groups worked really well together, each person knew their role and some even took on extra responsibilities. The Fantails had a camping trip planned so this fundraiser went towards this. We had lots of support throughout the day from friends, families, support staff and even random donations from the public. We witnessed some members shine in areas we had never seen before and others naturally support one another. It was a fun day with lots of laughs. Staying Connected through lockdown: Tui Network By the Tui Network During Lockdown we thought it was really important to stay connected with one another. We did this through zoom meetings, text messages, video chats, phone calls, creating artwork for ourselves and for other members in the group, writing letters as well as setting small tasks and activities to support our well being. Lockdown affected everyone in different ways but one thing that everyone seemed to relate to was the importance of staying connected as a group. We all have a greater appreciation for one another from this experience. Follow our stories on the Neighbourhood Connections Facebook page: ConnectionsNZ 9

The Tui Network art exhibition The Tui Network had their first art exhibition. It wasn’t quite how we had originally planned but we made the most of an unusual and unexpected situation . We had been fortunate enough to be given an art space in Naenae town centre thanks to the Hutt City Council. The group created some amazing work. Some work had not been completed before the country went into lock down. Despite this obstacle we decided to complete the art work and rather than a face to face exhibition we would showcase it through Zoom. The group did an amazing job talking about the art they had created. We decided that we would put the art on the neighbourhood connections Facebook page and have an auction. It was very exciting to see the bids happening. The money raised will go towards a trip away next month. Zoom chats to Australia How awesome that so many members joined in to our chat with some new friends in Australia. It was great to hear everyone proudly and enthusiastically talk about what they have been doing and what they do as a group. It was great to meet some interesting people in Australia and find out what they get up to. The Tui Networks art exhibition was displayed, and Craig's (from the Our Voices Network) movie about his art work was also shared. Cam (from Australia) told us about his YouTube Channel- and Louis from the Taranaki Network checked it out straight away- Hope you enjoyed it Louis Another highlight was that the Kapiti Kiwis joined us from their first meeting since the lockdown measures have eased. Everyone enjoyed meeting the group. We hope to have regular calls to our new friends in Australia - you are most welcome to join us next time. We might even show them our video about the hui Movie review - by Christopher Whitmore When Damain Drake Senior(Timothy Dalton) gets kidnapped by the Acme Cooperation and Mr.Chairman (Steve Martin), it's up to Damain (DJ) Drake Jr. ( Brendan Fraser) to team up with Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny along with the beautiful Kate Houghton ( Jenna Elfman) to find the Blue Monkey ( that turns people into monkeys) and rescue D.J's Father and also save the world. He got it from Chelsea Winter's website Honey wrap Fundraiser: The Tui Network The Tui Network have been busy bees this year coming up with fundraising ideas. This was just one of our many fundraising events. We loved that not only did we raise funds for social events but we are also doing our part to promote being more environmentally friendly. We started selling honey wraps, recycle shopping bags and stainless steel straws all to better the environment. We did this through a New Zealand owned and operated organisation called honey wrap. We started off well but due to COVID 19 we had to wrap up this fundraiser. We still made a good wee profit that will contribute towards our social goals.
