The Banner The Lord is My Banner. Exodus 17:15 February 22, 2022 First Baptist Church, Cuero P.O. Box 803 408 N. Gonzales Cuero, TX 77954 361-275-3401 (office) www.fbccuero.org Note From The Pastor Dr. Glenn E. Robertson, Sr. Pastor This Sunday I will conclude the series on being Image Bearers of God. We have looked at the meaning of Imago Dei, all people are made in the image of God. In doing this, I have laid the foundation for salvation. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Christ’s death and resurrection is God’s provision for salvation. Because of sin, we were removed from Eden, the presence of God. Sin cannot exist with holy. Sinners cannot be in the presence of the Holy One. Christ’s death paid the Law’s requirement for atonement. Jesus – the only holy man – died for all sinners. Those who have faith in Jesus receive atonement for their sins (Romans 3:25). They are declared to be holy before God. The presence of God enters them by the Holy Spirit. Now they are made holy before God. All who are saved are thus priests of God because they have the Spirit of God in them. They serve with a variety of gifts and ministries bearing witness to the Kingdom of God here on earth. Yet, there is another ultimate goal of this salvation. We often think the goal of salvation is heaven. I say heaven is a result of salvation, not the goal. The highest goal is reunion of fellowship with God. Yet, for the saved another goal is that we be conformed to the image of Christ. God desires for His nature – the nature of heaven - to be in us. Once we are saved, the Holy Spirit begins to transform us into the nature of God Himself. We are made into a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). Being made new, we are to leave the old corrupted nature and become a new person like Jesus. This process is called sanctification. It is the work of the Spirit in us from the day of salvation until the day we join Christ in heaven. Thus, the goal of salvation is not to get us to heaven as much as to get heaven into us. Heaven is God’s dwelling. When God brings heaven (New Jerusalem) to His new earth, we will see Eden again. Yet this time, the new creation will no longer have the presence of the evil one or those who do his will. The following Sunday, March 6, I have asked Steven to preach. The Lord has given him a message. I want to encourage him by allowing him to preach from time to time. Also, I am in the process of preparing for surgery on my back. This will also be a time I will rely upon Steven to fill the pulpit as I will be unable to serve for a brief period. May Christ be praised. Pastor Glenn Larry’s Notes Pastor of Music & Worship DISCIPLENOW Our church hosted the DiscipleNow Weekend for our students last week. It concluded on Sunday in the 11AM service. Many of our youth made decisions for Christ and to follow the Lord. Many adults also made responses to the Invitation. The service had a revival kind of feeling. All in all, it was a great, God-filled time. I pray that we can keep that enthusiasm and commitment in the weeks ahead. May we see strength and growth in all age groups. To God be the glory!
