With just 10 luxurious guest tents, Sanctuary Tambarare is a peaceful haven that reflects its surroundings – with a generous helping of indulgence. After adventurous days tracking lions, riding horses with rhinos or spotting giraffes, elephants, gazelle and zebra in this stunning wildlife retreat, guests can retire to the secluded tented camp for sundowners, relaxation and attentive five-star service. Inside the spacious and beautifully appointed main tent, inviting sofas and chairs encourage guests to linger. The camp’s colours are inspired by nature, from ‘sun-bleached’ wood and wicker lampshades to intense bursts of colour in the exuberant fabrics, like wildflowers dotted around the landscape. The tented ceiling and soft lighting create a sophisticated ambience. Spacious Guest Tents Each luxury guest tent is large and airy (57sqm), with a private veranda overlooking the grassy plains. Gently billowing white curtains add to the romance, with Masai-inspired art in traditional blue – representing the sky and precious rainwater. Enjoy floor-to-ceiling cinematic views of the landscape from the super king beds. The ensuite boasts a walk-in shower, double basin, hairdryer and sumptuous towels. GAME VIEWING AND ACTIVITIES Game Drives: At Sanctuary Tambarare, guests can explore Ol Pejeta Conservancy with daily game drives, where expert guides enrich the experience. In addition to the Big Five and many other animals (from cheetahs and jackal to hippos and hyena), the conservancy is home to over 130 black rhinos. ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES* Thrilling Night Games Drives: The plains come alive at night, with nocturnal animals such as aardvark, white-tailed mongoose, zorilla (striped polecat), bat-eared fox and perhaps even lions and leopard. This nighttime adventure is very special as it’s not possible in most of Kenya’s national parks and reserves. Rhino Encounter: Get up close and personal with the last two northern white rhino on earth and hear their incredible story. Lion Tracking: Guests can accompany a ranger and actively help protect these big cats. They’ll take notes on specific lions spotted, then report to the Ol Pejeta Ecological Monitoring Department. Cycling Safari: This all-day adventure through the Laikipia landscape includes animal spotting, lunch and climbing at the Big Rock. Horse Riding with Rhinos: Guests can take morning or evening horse rides in the 600-acre endangered species enclosure, alongside northern and southern white rhino, Grevy’s zebra and Jackson’s hartebeest. Ride the Wild: Riding on horseback across the Ol Pejeta plains gives you a unique perspective of the landscape and allows you to get closer to wildlife. Guided Bush Walks: Accompanied by an experienced ranger, these interpretive walks bring you up close and personal with the sights, smells and sounds of the African bush. Hippo Hide Nature Trail: Guests walk through the bush along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro river, where hippos keep cool in the shallow water. Meet the Neighbours Community Interaction: Ol Pejeta Conservancy aims to positively impact the surrounding communities through education, agriculture and livestock enterprise. Visit local communities and see first hand the work the Conservancy undertakes in health care services, sustainable energy and community enterprise initiatives. Run in the Wild: For fitness and adventure fans, there is no better run than a 5 to 7km route across the Ol Pejeta plains. Gym in the Wild: Join a one hour coach led class with a focus on ‘functional fitness’. Classes include strength, endurance, mobility, agility and flexibility. Junior Ranger: Children can enjoy completing an activity booklet complete with crayons, stickers and a bag. At the end of their trip the young rangers will be rewarded for their sightings by repeating the official ranger oath and receiving a ranger hat, certificate and an honorary pin. *Additional cost applies and subject to availability at the time of booking. FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN Children aged 6 and over are welcome at Sanctuary Tambarare. Children aged 15 or younger are required to share with an adult. DINING Breakfast, lunch, snacks during activities and dinners are all included in your stay. Breakfast is served before the morning game activity. Lunch will be enjoyed back at the camp. After evening game drives, guests will return to the camp for pre- dinner drinks and dinner. Romantic private dinners on your room deck can be arranged upon request. With prior notice, our camps are able to arrange halaal meals, however, please note our kitchens aren’t strictly halaal and our chefs are not trained in halaal food preparation. Unfortunately, we are unable to arrange kosher meals. BAGGAGE RESTRICTIONS Maximum of 15kg of luggage per person is allowed for light aircraft flights, including hand luggage and camera equipment. Please ensure that all luggage is soft-sided. HEALTH Please discuss health precautions for your travel itinerary with a qualified health professional at least six weeks before departure. We also advise all travellers to take precautions against malaria. HONEYMOONS AND SPECIAL OCCASIONS Guests celebrating their honeymoon will receive special surprises during their stay. All attempts are made to keep honeymooners separate from other guests. Our honeymoon services include: • Special honeymooner welcome • Fruit Basket in the room • Private meals on deck • A bottle of sparkling wine during dinner • Traditional Maasai blessing ceremony • Complimentary private vehicle (subject to availability) CLIMATE The climate in Kenya is mainly characterised by warm days and cool evenings. December to March are usually the warmest months of the year, while June to August are the coolest. April and May often see intermittent rains, and from September to November the days are warm with short scattered rains falling in November.
CLOTHING Clothing should be cool and comfortable; and colours should blend in with nature as much as possible. Greens, browns and khaki coloured clothing are advisable for safaris. We suggest long sleeves and long trousers and for morning and evenings due to mosquitoes; and a fleece, sweater or warm jacket for morning and evening game drives. Sturdy and comfortable shoes are essential. A complimentary overnight laundry service is offered in the camp. Accessories: Sunscreen, sunglasses and hats are essential. Binoculars and good cameras are an absolute must. The camp provides a torch as well as complimentary mosquito repellent and toiletries. MONEY AND CREDIT CARDS All extras can be paid for with Visa, MasterCard, American Express and traveller’s cheques. US dollars, Pounds, Euro’s and Kenyan Shillings are also accepted; however change will be given in the local currency. Diners Cards are not accepted. TIPPING GUIDELINE Tipping is not obligatory but generally accepted rates are $15 per guest per day for the guide and staff.
