Thank you for supporting our festive campaign As part of our festive campaign, which will launch in November and encourage residents to shop locally this Christmas, we will be filming and taking photographs of businesses in Caterham on the Hill and Caterham Valley, Oxted, Lingfield, Nutfield and Warlingham on 16 and 17 November. If you have agreed for us to film or photograph your business as part of our campaign, to make it more authentic, it would be really helpful if you were able to display any festive window displays or decorations ready for our visit. We realise this might not be practical for all businesses, but anything you’re able to do would be a great help. Thank you to those businesses who’ve agreed to take part. If you would like your business, or a business you know, to be included in the campaign, please e-mail us. Lingfield Winter Wonderland – win a meal for four To encourage visitors to Lingfield this festive season, businesses in the area will be encouraged to decorate their shop window displays in the theme of winter wonderland, with the best display winning a dinner for four at the Star Inn in Lingfield. A treasure hunt in 12 participating shops will also be taking place, encouraging shoppers to explore the shops, with a small prize on offer. If you’d like to take part and be in with a chance of winning, you’ll need to register by 4 November, either by calling 07769 747150 or e-mailing jaynewebb@southoverdesign.co.uk.
Online Christmas market A newly created online Facebook market place is giving local businesses and sellers across the county, including in Caterham, Oxted and Warlingham, the opportunity to promote and sell their goods in the run up to Christmas. A virtual online stall costs £3 per month, which will enable the seller to post twice a day to promote their products, gifts or services. NHS Test and Trace in the workplace The government has provided guidance for employers, employees and the self employed on NHS Test and Trace in the workplace. The guidance explains how employers and businesses can support NHS Test and Trace and play their part to slow the spread of the virus, protect the health and care system and save lives. It’s also been updated to reflect employers' legal duties around staff who are self-isolating.
Guidance on working safely during Covid-19 and sector specific guidance is also available to help employers make workplaces COVID secure and reduce the risk of colleagues having to self isolate if a member of staff tests positive for COVID-19. Additional support for employers and the self employed The government recently announced some changes to the Self Employed Income Support Scheme. The scheme has been extended and will last for a further six months. The first grant will cover a three month period from 1 November 2020 until 31 January 2021. The government will provide a taxable grant which will now cover 40% of average monthly trading profits, paid out in a single instalment covering three months’ worth of profits, and capped at £3,750 in total. The second grant will cover a three month period from 1 February 2021 until 30 April 2021. The government will confirm the level of this second grant in due course. The grants are taxable income and also subject to National Insurance contributions. The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme will close on 31 October and will be replaced by a six month Job Support Scheme, which will be available from 1 November 2020 and run for six months, until 30 April 2021. Help for employers creating job placements for young people
If you’re an employer looking to create job placements for young people, you might be eligible for funding through the Kickstart Scheme. The Kickstart Scheme aims to create hundreds of thousands of high quality six month work placements for people aged 16 to 24, who are on Universal Credit and at risk of long term unemployment. Funding under the scheme is available following a successful application process and applications from businesses must be for a minimum of 30 job placements. To help smaller businesses, employers offering fewer than 30 placements will be asked to make a bid through an intermediary, who will then bid for 30 or more placements as a combined bid from several businesses. Surrey Chambers of Commerce (SCC) is acting as an intermediary for this scheme. All eligible and interested businesses who wish to apply for the scheme, but don’t need 30 or more placements, should contact SCC at kickstart@surrey-chambers.co.uk. The government has also provided a link for businesses to find other intermediaries. Upcoming events for businesses Surrey Chambers of Commerce and its partners are hosting a range of events in November, most of which are free to attend: A free webinar will be held on 5 November, from 10am to 11.30am, focusing on what 2021 holds for the tourism sector.
