Career Events 29 April – 1 May Career Expo The Careers Expo is not just for school kids. A big range of employment, education and training providers will be there giving free advice. The Expo closes at 3pm on Thursday and Friday so if you want to miss the crowds of students go after lunch when they have headed back to their school. If is on Saturday and Sunday from 10 – 4. JOBS ON FACEBOOK Advertising jobs has become so expensive that many organisations advertise their jobs for free on Facebook on pages like: • PerthJobs, • Jobs in Perth, • The Broome Noticeboard, • Mining, Shutdown, FIFO Jobs Western Australia Search Facebook until you find a group that suits what you are looking for. 4|Page

If working in an ethical industry is a high priority for you, You may be interested in exploring the opportunities advertised through Ethical Jobs. Many of the jobs in Perth seem to be in health care and in the not for profit sector. 5|Page
HARVEST TRAIL If you are prepared to live away from home, you can probably make a living harvesting fruit or vegetables. Many grey nomads have been happy to make some extra money by picking a crop. The Harvest Trail was set up by government to help find workers for the harvests and many farmers have been forced to pay Australian workers’ rates to get their crops picked. Check out if you would be interested in any of the jobs on the Harvest Trail site. CLEANING WORK IN TOURIST TOWNS There are requests for cleaners on Facebook and in shop windows in tourist towns. The offers are for up to $45 cash per hour. This high wage is because of the tourist boom there is no accommodation for low paid workers. If you have accommodation, you can get great money for cleaning in the tourist towns. 6|Page
University ENROL AT UNI NOW FOR 2022 All universities in Western Australia have opened enrolments for 2022. All universities have information sessions to help future students. UNIVERSITY PREPARATION COURSES Students who undertake a university preparation course before starting their degree are likely to choose the right course and finish their degree. University preparation courses are run by all universities in Western Australian and they are usually free. 7|Page
Training 13 – 15 JULY ENROL NOW: WAFARMERS BOOTCAMP TO EMPLOYMENT - MURESK You may have heard about the shortage of workers the agriculture sector. You can gain skills and meet potential employers at this Bootacmp. It is a three-day program providing an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of and/or aptitude for precision control Ag-Tech machinery, drones, data management, and other aspects of the industry. NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN PROGRAM The New Opportunities for Women program is for women who want to return to the paid workforce. If your confidence level is zero or 100% you will find others just like you in your class. It runs for one semester across 4 days per week to allow you time to get your urgent appointments done. The course costs are low and may be further subsidised if you are receiving benefits. The units include: • Preparation for employment • Exploring education, training and career opportunities • Personal management • Practical maths • Introduction to computing and technology. LOWER FEES, LOCAL SKILLS — HALF PRICE COURSE FEES AT TAFE! How would you like to get a nationally recognised and accredited qualification but pay only half-price course fees? Or even less than half price! And how about a fees cap? Show me the half price qualifications! FREE DIGITAL SKILLS UPGRADE The Commonwealth government has worked with Microsoft to deliver digital skills online for free. • The use of data to identify in-demand jobs and the skills needed to fill them. • Free access to learning paths and content to help people develop the skills these positions require; and • Low-cost certifications and free job-seeking tools to help people who develop these skills pursue new jobs. The Australian Apprenticeship Pathways website aapathways.com.au is your first stop if you are looking for information about apprenticeships and traineeships. Information includes: • Job and Training Descriptions –2500 job descriptions filtered by state, choice of industry or keyword. • Job Pathways Charts – examples of potential career pathways that can begin with an Australian apprenticeship. • Pre-apprenticeship Finder – find a pre-apprenticeship in the industry of your choice by location. • Practice Aptitude Quizzes – general industry based literacy & numeracy quizzes illustrating the levels required when undertaking Australian Apprenticeships qualifications • Literacy and Numeracy Quizzes – Interactive quizzes to gauge if you are apprenticeship ready. • Career Interest Explorer – A quiz to understand which type of career or work one is best suited for. • Co-branded resources – Resources such as fast fact sheets, steps to an Australian apprenticeship flowchart etc. which can be easily downloaded and customized for free. 11 | P a g e
Career Services MIGRANTS: RECOGNITION OF OVERSEAS QUALIFICATIONS The Overseas Qualifications Unit (OQU) assesses eligible qualifications gained overseas to determine their comparability with Australian standards. The OQU can assess post-secondary qualifications including: • formal technical and vocational qualifications (Certificate IV and above); and • formal higher education qualifications (bachelor degree and above). TAP INTO YOUR NETWORKS If there is a job going in our business, we will give it to a family member first. If no one in our family wants it, we will check our friends or our friends’ kids. Check these 5 Tips on How to Network in WA TAFE lecturers have great networks. College lecturers have extensive networks in their field of expertise. Going to college and doing work placements give you the chance to get to know people in your industry. If they like you, they are more likely to give you a job or recommend you. GET A MENTOR: FEMALE, OVER 24, INTERESTED IN AGRICULTURE? Applications for the 2021 Diversity in Agriculture Leadership Mentoring Program are open on 8 March 2021. The Program matches successful applicants with a mentor and the mentorship runs from May 2021 to October 2021. With their mentor, each mentee establishes leadership goals, outlines steps to achieving these goals and puts, in place steps to measure progress towards these goals. APPLY NOW!
