COVID-19 Updates - Community Pharmacy West Yorkshire
Pharmacy Advice Audit 2021 - Data Collection is Next Week Commencing 25th
January 2021
Please prepare for taking part in the PSNC's audit one day next week. Community Pharmacy West
Yorkshire is backing PSNC’s audit on the reasons why people use community pharmacy and urge all
pharmacy teams to take part. The Pharmacy Advice Audit 2021 will be carried out in just a single
day (chosen by the pharmacy) in the week commencing Monday 25th January 2021. The audit will
help gather data about patients seeking informal advice to help push for fair funding for community
pharmacy. The audit has been made as simple as possible to complete. Details of the audit, team
briefing and digital guide (short video) are available here: https://psnc.org.uk/our-news/pharmacy-
advice-audit-2021-paperwork-and-guidance-now-available/.

COVID-19 Updates
Community Pharmacy Staff Access to COVID-19 Vaccination
Community Pharmacy West Yorkshire is working with the ICS on how community pharmacy staff
will access the COVID-19 vaccination in West Yorkshire. Please be assured that community
pharmacy staff are classed as frontline health and social care staff, and so are an early priority for
vaccination. All areas have given assurances that they will meet the NHS guidance and have made
'significant progress' in access to vaccines by the first week in February.

The letter sent to all pharmacies by West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership (ICS)
on the 15th January 2021 concerning frontline health workers getting vaccinated can be accessed
here.

Area by area update
Updates regarding COVID-19 vaccinations for pharmacy staff are being sent to the pharmacy
NHSmail premises account so please ensure that you regularly check the pharmacy emails.

Leeds- details to follow of the system for booking of vaccinations. Ad hoc, short notice, PCN
vaccines are being offered in some areas and pharmacy teams are encouraged to accept this
offer if they are able. An invite to book at the York Vaccination site has been sent by CPWY to
the pharmacy NHSmail address as this may be convenient for some contractors / pharmacy staff.

Wakefield - update sent to pharmacy NHSmail addressed by CPWY and NHSE&I. Pharmacy
contractors must submit a return to the CCG who will then contact the pharmacy to book
vaccination appointments.. Ad hoc, short notice, PCN vaccines are being offered in some areas
and pharmacy teams are encouraged to accept this offer if they are able.

Calderdale - update sent to pharmacy NHSmail addressed by CPWY and NHSE&I. Pharmacy
contractors asked to submit a return to the CCG to confirm if all staff vaccinated or request
  further vaccination appointments.
Kirklees - update sent to pharmacy NHSmail addresses. Pharmacies asked to return of a form to
the CCG. Pharmacies will be contacted over the next couple of weeks regarding the booking of
   appointments.

Bradford - details sent to all pharmacies by NHSE&I including how to book vaccination
   appointments.

COVID-19 Vaccination - Council for Mosques
A position statement on vaccines from the Council for Mosques can be accessed here.

Our dedicated COVID-19 email covid-19@cpwy.org is still available for contractors to flag any
concerns or issues or to request advice or assistance.

Flu Service 2020/21 Updates
50-64 Year Olds Being Encouraged to get a Flu Vaccination
NHSE&I is writing to 50 to 64 year olds, (not in at risk groups), who have not yet had their
vaccination, asking them to arrange one and highlighting that pharmacies can provide this free
service. Contractors are therefore advised to anticipate the potential for increased requests for NHS
flu vaccinations over the next couple of weeks. The letters are also signposting patients to use the
NHS Website Flu Vaccine Finder to locate a participating pharmacy, so it is important that
contractors ensure that their NHS website profile is up-to-date and reflects whether they are
providing the service (please see below info on the NHS Website Flu Vaccine Finder). There is still
vaccine available for community pharmacies to order for this group – information on this is available
in the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) stock guidance for pharmacies.

DHSC Flu Vaccine Stock: Use for Private Patients
Pharmacies can now offer flu vaccination to private patients or those within occupational health
schemes using DHSC centrally supplied flu vaccine stock (group C* patients in the Department of
Health and Social Care (DHSC) stock guidance for pharmacies). Contractors are advised to continue
to provide flu vaccinations for NHS eligible cohorts as some patients may still present later in the
season, such as the 50-64 year old cohort and newly pregnant women. * It should be noted that
vaccines used under group C are not claimable or reimbursable under the NHS service.

NHS Website Flu Vaccine Finder
The new pharmacy flu vaccine service finder, which allows
patients to be able to find local pharmacies providing the NHS Flu
Service, is live on the NHS website service finder. Pharmacies are
listed in the search results for their local area as long as they have
added the service to their NHS website profile.
Contractors should therefore review their NHS website profile to check it accurately reflects
whether they are providing the flu service. Contractors should also update the profile if they can no
longer offer the service, e.g. because of no stock. See PSNC update here for more information.

Information for Pharmacies across West Yorkshire
Unplanned Closures / Unplanned Temporary Suspension of Services
There may be occasions when a contractor is unable to open its premises for a reason that is beyond
its control. Any unplanned / temporary closures should be reported as soon as possible to
england.wyat-phes@nhs.net using the Annex 14 form which can be found here. The pharmacy will
need to report information on the closure including the reason and detail of the arrangements that
have been made for patients. Pharmacies will also need to:

• Update your DoS profile to reflect that the pharmacy is having to close https://dos-
    profile.service.nhs.uk/#/index.
• Update your NHS Choices entry.
• Liaise with your nearby pharmacies to check who is remaining open and place a sign on the
    closed door for patients.

More details on unplanned closures / unplanned temporary suspension of services can be found on
our website here: http://www.cpwy.org/pharmacy-contracts-services/nhse-i-contacts.shtml#UC.

Services Information
Community Pharmacy West Yorkshire has a Services Checklist to help contractors with the different
services offered, where to claim and when to claim by. The Services Checklist can be found on our
website here.

Discharge Medicines Service Toolkit Published
NHSE&I has now published the DMS Toolkit for Pharmacy Staff which aims to assist and support
cross sector implementation of the DMS as an Essential service.

Preparing to Provide the Discharge Medicines Service (DMS) – ACTION REQUIRED
DMS becomes an Essential Service from 15th February 2021 and contractors must now start to
prepare for the service going live. Preparations should include a review of staff training and
competence to ensure relevant staff, including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, who will be
involved in providing the service, have the necessary knowledge and competence to undertake it
safely. (CPPE training is available to support the service; this can be found here).

In addition, contractors are reminded that they must also have an SOP in place for the service.

                                                                                                  4
To assist contractors with their preparation for DMS, PSNC has published a checklist that can be
used as a guide to work through. Other useful resources can be found on the PSNC DMS webpage
here. All major trusts in West Yorkshire are live with Connect with Pharmacy and so are already
enabled to send referrals to community pharmacies via PharmOutcomes. Community Pharmacy
West Yorkshire is currently working with local trusts to support/engage with them on the new DMS
service.

Bradford Stop Smoking Service – REMINDER, New Service/Contract Due to be
Advertised via YORtender (Action Required ASAP)
Following a recent Public Health review of the Stop Smoking Service in Bradford, a new service will
shortly be advertised, via the YORtender Portal, for any interested GP Practices and community
pharmacies in Bradford to provide. If your pharmacy is interested in providing this service, it is
important that you register as a supplier on the YORtender Portal as soon as possible:
https://www.yortender.co.uk. Once registered you will be notified automatically when the tender
is advertised (expected around the 1 February 2021) and you will then be able to access the relevant
documentation to be able to apply for admission onto the Provider List.

It is vital that interested providers are registered as a supplier on the YORtender portal in advance
of publication of the tender application.

The GP and community pharmacy based Stop Smoking Service forms part of Bradford’s Living Well
Service offer and aims to support people who express a desire to quit smoking. We encourage as
many pharmacies as possible to take up this opportunity.

NHS Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS)
Please see our latest, November, CPCS bulletin here. Also, another reminder about the Royal
Pharmaceutical Society CPCS free workshops that are being delivered in partnership with the Royal
College of General Practitioners. The workshops have been designed to support pharmacists in
managing CPCS referrals and provide an excellent opportunity to be able to practice the skills
required to deliver effective CPCS consultations. The feedback from pharmacists attending these
sessions has been extremely positive and we would recommend that pharmacists do attend one of
these sessions where possible (sessions are available daily, including Sundays). To find out more and
book your place see here.
