SWA 4R Scavenger Hunt

The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County and Resource Depot have long been partners in promoting
Palm Beach County residents to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink! how we dispose of our waste. This
summer, we are debuting a new family-friendly, month-long event to engage the community in a hunt to
discover the many local “gems” that make Palm Beach County a great GREEN place to live!
The SWA 4R Scavenger Hunt is a task-oriented experience that challenges participants to complete “missions”
on location at the SWA Greenway Trail System, at their homes and places of business, and at special stops
(Ports of Call) around our community. Using an app-based platform, teams of competitors will earn points for
submitting photos/videos of themselves at various checkpoints, by answering trivia questions, and completing
challenges to stay a step ahead of their competition. The SWA 4R Scavenger Hunt includes a stop at
Resource Depot, where participants receive a special commemorative coin as one of their “treasuREs” for
participating. The SWA 4R Scavenger Hunt awards will be presented through a virtual event. “TreasuRE”
prizes will be awarded to the team with 1st, 2nd, 3rd point totals, as well as the team with the most unique
mission submissions during the scavenger hunt. Additional “booty” prizes will awarded based on random
drawings from all entries received.
We hope you will consider supporting this event in one of two ways:
• Become an SWA 4R Scavenger Hunt Destination! Your business is featured as one of the mission
locations (Ports of Call) that participants visit to earn points. You can design a challenge that is unique
to your business – perhaps take a picture with the most popular item on your menu, or answer a trivia
question about your founder.
• Donate a prize as a Loot Sponsor to reward our participating teams for their dedication to learning
about reducing waste and recycling issues. Prizes from businesses and organizations such as yours will
drive participation in the event, as well as encourage our scavenger hunters to become new patrons.
Proceeds from the SWA 4R Scavenger Hunt benefit Resource Depot, a not-for-profit creative reuse center in
Palm Beach County that collects and distributes unwanted reusable materials to the arts and education
communities. Last year, Resource Depot kept almost 200,000 pounds of reusable supplies out of our landfill
and put them in the hands of those students, artists and teachers who could use them most.
We invite you to support this unique fundraiser that provides an opportunity for safe, physically-distanced
outdoor fun that the whole family can enjoy!

HOW IT WORKS…
Registered players log into the GooseChase
App (available through iPhone or Android)
and use their specific game code to join the
SWA 4R Scavenger Hunt
Once they set up their Crew, they are ready to begin to
complete the missions as they are released throughout
the event. Each mission has a name, description and
point value, with the option of including a link or a photo
to provide information to complete the challenges.
To complete a mission,
Crews select it from the
list and follow the
instructions to receive
the allotted points.
Ce Missions Sometimes they will be
submitting a photo or
video, while other times
Whenever a Crew completes a mission,
they will be checking-in
it’s added to the activity feed and the
rankings are automatically updated. at a specific location or
solving a puzzle or
riddle.
Bonus points will be awarded along the way
for completing special missions or if the
Crew’s submission is extra impressive. So
it’s a race to the finish!
Prizes will be awarded for the top ranked
teams by points as well as many surprise
giveaways for completing specific missions
at our Loot Giveaway Virtual Event at the
close of the SWA 4R Scavenger Hunt
