Frequently Asked Questions What should my teen bring on the bus? We recommend sending your child with at least one marked bottle of water for the bus. A cooler will be kept on the bus to keep H2o cold. Snacks for the bus ride home are ok. There will be a bag for trash on the bus. Kids are asked to respect their environment and do not leave wrappers and debris on the bus. Masks are required to be worn on the bus. If my child really enjoys the week, he/ she spends at Teen Scene, can they sign up for another week? Since all attraction tickets are purchased in advance, we normally close registration at the end of March. Your teen is welcome to sign up for next summer though! My child requires one on one assistance. Who do I speak to about that? If your child requires one on one assistance or needs to administer medicine throughout the day, please see us after the meeting. While we can remind your child to take his or her medicine we are not allowed to administer any medication. Our staff will not be responsible for holding medications. Your child will be fully responsible for this. Should I pack a lunch for my teen or is it better to send him/her with money? The majority of trips do NOT provide lunch in the ticket package. We recommend sending your child with a lunch on trips where lunch is not provided. Waiting on long lines at concession stands cuts into fun time! Also, food concessions are very pricey. Please be certain to label all water bottles and lunch bags with your teens name. What should my teen wear? Teens must wear the official TSTC t-shirt. Shirts will be similar to previous years, so it’s ok to wear one from a previous year. Please do not cut shirts. We also suggest that they wear shorts with secure pockets - no gym shorts. Sneakers must also be worn on the majority of trips. Wristbands will be worn at water parks when shirts are not worn. 9|Page
Will Teen Scene be cancelled due to inclement weather? Teen Scene will not be cancelled because of rain or excessive heat unless the venue itself closes. We will do our best to make sure all of the week’s activities be completed in that week, but we can’t guarantee it. What is the drop-off and pick-up procedure? All buses will leave from Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights. The bus will leave promptly at its departure time, so parents are encouraged to drop their children off 15 minutes prior to departure. We assemble at the picnic tables. The arrival times are approximate times and your teen will be instructed to call you 30 minutes prior to returning to the high school. Teens that don’t have a cell phone will be allowed to use the Head Counselor’s phone. Note: The bus will wait only 5 minutes extra for your child to be picked up. Do not be late. If you cannot make the pickup time, please send another in your place. What if my child cannot make one of the trips, can I get a partial refund? Unfortunately, we cannot issue any refunds because all tickets are pre- purchased. As a courtesy, please kindly notify the head supervisor if your child will be absent. Should my child bring any money on the trips? All activity tickets and some lunches (where noted) are included in the registration price. If your child wishes to buy extra snacks, items at the mall, concessions at the amusement parks they will have to pay for these themselves. Is it okay if my teen brings expensive electronics like digital cameras and personal gaming systems? While these electronics are not prohibited, we discourage campers from bringing them. Part of the fun of Teen Scene is making new friends on the bus which is hard to do when focused on electronics! Cell phones are allowed and will be used to contact you 30 minutes prior to our return. The Teen Scene staff and recreation departments are not responsible for the loss or damage of any electronics or cameras. 10 | P a g e
