ADDO SAFARIS AND GAME ACTIVITIES Rates may be subject to change. Times may vary according to the seasons. Transfers to Game Reserves and Port Elizabeth can be arranged. Please arrange 12 hours prior to departure. Addo Elephant National Park Addo Elephant National Park is a diverse wildlife conservation and is one of the country's 20 national parks. It currently ranks third in size after Kruger National Park and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. It was proclaimed in 1931 and today is the only park in the world to host the “Big 7” (Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino, Lion, Leopard, Whale, and Great White Shark). Addo is the best place to get up close and personal with the biggest land mammal – the park is home to over 700 Elephants, the densest population in the world. Other mammals include Hyaena, Zebra, Jackal, Warthog, Suricate, and numerous species of Antelope. Over 300 bird species have been recorded in Addo and there are around 600 different plant species. Addo is also home to the endangered Dung Beetle. Whether you experience the park from the comfort of your own vehicle or on a game drive, the chances are you will have close encounters with the Elephant. Please note that when entering Addo Elephant National Park (and all other National Parks in South Africa) you will be required to produce an identity document (passport, ID card or driver’s license) To make the most of the park, bring binoculars, camera, walking shoes and wildlife reference books.
WOODALL COUNTRY HOUSE SAFARIS - Addo National Elephant Park - Woodall’s open-topped land cruisers depart twice a day to Addo Elephant National Park. Our highly experienced and qualified guides have an intimate knowledge of the Addo area and place much emphasis on individual interests and comfort. The following recommended Safaris are offered (Minimum 2 persons) Morning Drive: Departs: 08h00 Afternoon Drive: Departs: 14h00 R1470/person including transfers, conservation fee, drinks, and snacks (R1620/person 1 September 2021) Minimum age for children: 6 years, unless on a private safari. Private safaris for families or group can be arranged. Price on request. GAME VIEWING FROM YOUR OWN VEHICLE – Addo National Elephant Park – The main artery through the park is tarred and the various loops off it are good gravel roads. Explore more than 75 kilometers of road through prime wildlife country. There are several lookout points at waterholes. Opening hours change according to season. No reservation required. Park entry / conservation fees can be paid at the main gate. Conservation fee: R344/adult and R172/child under 12yrs. ADDO ELEPHANT PARK SAFARIS – Addo National Elephant Park – Addo Elephant National Park offers various 2-hour long safaris (depart from Addo Park Reception) Please check with reception for current times as these change according to season. HIKING TRAILS - Addo National Elephant Park - Addo Park Discovery Trail: This unique 2 km trail through typical Addo thicket has been specially designed for disabled visitors and is suitable for wheelchairs. Zuurberg Nature Trails: (1 hour and 3 hours). These trails wind through fynbos and deep kloofs within unspoiled indigenous forests, home to a wide range of game and birds, as well as various vegetation types including impressive cycad and yellowwood populations. Zuurberg is open from 07h00 - 16h30. Conservation fee: R307/adult and R154/child under 12yrs HORSE TRAILS – Addo National Elephant Park – Experience the park from Horseback – there are options available for riders of all levels of experience. The morning ride is for less experienced riders and takes place outside the fence line from where it is safe for novices to view big game The afternoon ride is for more experienced riders and goes through the Nyathi area, home to the Big Five, where encounters with large game are possible. There is also a Horse trail in the very scenic Zuurberg Mountain section of the park. Here there are no encounters with large game, but many beautiful scenic views of the mountains Book and pay for Horse trails at Reception at Main Camp. Private Game Reserves near Woodall Country House Several magnificent private game reserves can be found within an hours’ drive from Woodall. They are all unique and offer different experiences to the Addo Park, complementing it well. A combination of Addo and a safari to one of these reserves is a great way to fully experience the area. SCHOTIA GAME RESERVE - Private Game Reserves – Schotia is the oldest private game reserve in the Eastern Cape and lies on Addo’s Eastern border. It is famous for lion sightings. The Tooth & Claw is a guided drive in open topped vehicles. It begins in the late afternoon and returns after nightfall (late afternoon and evening is often the most rewarding time of day for game viewing as this is when animals are at their most active). This is especially the case with lion which are generally nocturnal hunters. Schotia is also home to Zebra, Wildebeest, Warthog, Jackal, Crocodile, Giraffe, and a large variety of Antelope. The drive is followed by a traditional meal served around a fire under the stars in a thatched open-air Lapa. Tooth & Claw Safari: R2000/person including dinner and drinks Time: 15h00 - 19h00 followed by dinner. Guests are usually back at Woodall by about 21h30. AMAKHALA GAME RESERVE - Private Game Reserves – Feel the heartbeat and rhythm of Africa on this Big 5 Reserve. Guided by experienced rangers on open Land Rovers, Amakhala offers diverse landscapes and wildlife including the Big 5, Black Wildebeest, Cheetah, Giraffe, Zebra, and numerous other Antelope. The safari commences from Leeuwenbosch Country House with a welcome drink, followed by a game drive through the reserve enjoying spectacular views, and ends with a 2-course lunch. Expect to see Cheetahs, Rhinos, Elephants, Hippos, Lions, Buffaloes, Leopards, and a host of other exciting animals. Safaris consist of a 2.5-hour game drive followed by lunch and refreshments. There is something for everyone in the beautiful Sundays River Valley of the Eastern Cape. ADRENALIN ADDO Zip Line: A short hike up to the edge of the valley finds the starting platform of the highest, longest and fastest double zip-line in the country! Fast, fun, and safe, this exhilarating ride begins from a vantage point 60 meters above the Sundays River, overlooking a valley of lush citrus orchards. Zip for 500m over the valley and finish off with a refreshing drink at the picturesque café next to the river. Giant Swing: The first of its kind in South Africa and guaranteed to swing you to new heights. After being hoisted up 18 metres high, the rest is history as they say. A release into oblivion, the sky your limit, this is the ultimate test. A fantastic activity for the energetic “adrenalin junkies” Zip Line: R350/person Giant Swing: R250/person ADDO RIVER SAFARI CRISSCROSS ADVENTURES Explore a different side of Addo whilst viewing game and birds on the riverbanks as you drift down some of the most scenic parts of the Sunday's River in a custom designed, comfortable and stable canoe (no paddling experience needed). This safari offers one of the best bird watching opportunities in the Eastern Cape, where countless water birds, seven different species of Kingfisher and chance sightings of the elusive African Fish Eagle and magnificent Goliath Heron can be seen. From there enjoy a guided hike through the Mountains, learning about interesting plants and enjoying the breathtaking beauty of the area. At the bottom of the hike there is a lovely mountain pool, great for swimming. This hike is not recommended for the elderly Bring Hat, Sun cream, Sunglasses, Camera, Walking Shoes and Binoculars. ECO QUAD BIKING CRISSCROSS ADVENTURES Exhilarating quad biking tours, off the beaten track through Addo’s spectacular environment, from Valley Bushveld and the Sunday River to beautiful citrus orchards. The tracks vary from scenic routes on open roads and citrus orchards for beginners to technical routes which have sneaky twists and inclines along the Sundays River. R500/person including transfers from Woodall, park fees, snacks, and drinks (minimum 2 person) Time: 09h30, 11h30 and 14h30 PENGUIN ISLAND CRUISE RAGGY CHARTERS Discover the marine life of Algoa Bay off Port Elizabeth, one of South Africa’s most diverse bays and the dolphin capital of the world. Bryde’s whales, bottlenose and humpback dolphins can be seen almost all year round. Southern right whales visit every year to give birth to their calves and mate and humpback whales pass through during their annual migration. Hundreds of common dolphins often come into the bay to feed. Pre-booking essential. WHALE WATCHING CRUISE RAGGY CHARTERS An exciting cruise to look for humpback or southern right whales which visit Algoa Bay between June and December. If no whale sightings occur guests will be taken out to St Croix Island Reserve to see the largest breeding colony of the endangered African Penguin.
