“WORK HARD – PLAY HARD” Varsity Head Coach Principal Levi Matherly Josh Rosenbloom Assistant Coaches Athletic Administrator Matt Pagni Jen Ritch Mike Stewart Athletic Director Troy Cranmer Ryan Sims Pete Petzing Mike Hughes Dear Parents and Players, It is the start of another high school baseball season and today marks the day our Reed Raiders Baseball family grows just a bit bigger. It is an exciting time for everyone involved, no matter if this is the start of your freshmen year or the start of your senior year. The coaching staff is excited to be a part of your son’s journey through high school and the Raiders Baseball program. We are excited to get back on the field and help your son grow as a person and as a player. I tell our players they are special. I want them to know what they have become a part of is not for everyone. We ask them to do a lot, with the understanding that the reward is something they can take with them well beyond the baseball field. They hear phrases like “Work Hard – Play Hard!”, “Hard 90!”, and “Double Out of the Box!” We use words such as: discipline, communication, dedication, effort, selfless. This is the core of our culture and how we will work through our process. Our coaching staff has dedicated themselves to developing each player in our program. Our program believes in practicing together as much as possible. This allows our varsity players to pass on their knowledge to the younger players as well as give the underclassmen an opportunity to showcase their abilities and put that knowledge into practice. This helps foster a culture of family as everyone in the program works together every day. As coaches, we recognize the vital role you, as a parent, play in making our high school program successful. Our coaching staff encourages parents to support our program any way they can. Our program is always in need of volunteers in the concession stand, collecting gate fees, taking pictures, various facilities improvements, and by participating in the various fundraising activities held by the program. These are great ways to support our program and players and ensure our continued success. Included in the following pages are more details about the Reed Raiders Baseball Program, our team standards – rules – discipline, team schedules, and trip itinerary for our varsity trip to Anaheim, CA (No travel in 2021). Thank you again for all of your support and we look forward to a great high school baseball season. GO RAIDERS!! As always, thank you for your help! “WORK HARD – PLAY HARD” HOW TO BE A SUCCESFUL RAIDERS BASEBALL PLAYER 1. Be Early! Being early is being on time. Being on time is late. Being late is your way of showing you don’t care about us or the mission. 2. Be Accountable. Excuses are for the mentally weak. If you mess up, we know. Deal with it. Make an adjustment and move on. 3. Be Coachable. The coaches want you to be a success too. Listen and remember what they say. The coach is right, even when he is wrong. 4. Be a Great Teammate. Nobody will remember your batting average. They will remember your kindness toward them in the locker room. 5. Be a Servant Leader. When the best players will do the smallest task, we are on the path to success. 6. Have Courage. Have the courage to be “The Man.” 7. Learn to Compete. If you have the ability to run to your car or ride home, you didn’t do enough during practice. 8. Respect the opponent, but more importantly respect The Game. The game is the opponent and “IT” knows. The Game knows if you respect it or not. 9. Communicate at all times about everything. On and off the field. 10. Don’t whine or mope. Your body language screams, it never whispers. Everyone wants to play. What do you do with your opportunities? 11. Get 1% better each day. Learn daily! 12. Find a way to be good at something. Be the best on the team at one thing. When you master it, find something else to be good at. 13. Wherever you are, be ALL there. 14. Love hard work! 15. Do more than you are supposed to do. Work early, work during, work late. 16. Focus on the process and not the outcome. 17. Prepare like a pro, play like a little leaguer. Have passion for what you do. 18. Know your role. You don’t have to accept it and we hope your role grows as you grow as a player. 19. Make this a large part of your life. It has to mean something. It has to sting when we lose and cause great joy when we win. 20. Believe and live MUDITA. The Japanese word for happiness for others. You must learn to have joy for the success of other players. DEFINITION OF “PLAY HARD” – TO PLAY 100%, WHEN 100% IS NEEDED. TO PLAY SMART, TO USE TRAINING, AND TO DO WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO. TO PLAY FOR THE GUY NEXT TO YOU AND TO ACHIEVE THE MISSION.
