Here is a quick look at our history: 1991 - Saint Paul Urban Tennis is formed with support Northwest Tennis Patrons with the goal of expanding opportunities to play and learn tennis for youth in Saint Paul. 1992 - Ernie Greene, longtime community leader and avid tennis coach, merges his efforts with SPUT bringing an emphasis on character and service with him. 2010 - The United States Tennis Association (USTA) names Saint Paul Urban Tennis the Outstanding National Junior Tennis and Learning program in the nation. 2017 - SPUT moves to our new headquarters at Eastview Rec Center on the east side of Saint Paul giving us the opportunity to create a meaningful space for neighbors to gather, learn, and play. Mayor Melvin Carter “I grew up playing tennis on the courts at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center under the tutelage of Ernie Greene and Saint Paul Urban Tennis. In those lessons, I learned valuable skills that helped me grow into the leader I am today. Saint Paul Urban tennis is a special organization that contributes to our city’s wellbeing and prosperity.”
