NOTES FROM THE DUGOUT Good evening everybody and a big welcome to all involved with Corby Town. Firstly, I have to say that I was absolutely gutted to concede the equalizer as we did on Saturday but equally, had we been offered a replay when we were 2-0 down after 20 minutes we would have been thrilled. As a new squad, the lads are gelling together nicely after the summer changes and we are thrilled to be in the hat for the next round. The FA Cup has always, and will always mean a lot to the club. We all know that this is going to be a long season but I am delighted with the squad that we have whilst always looking to improve where possible. I hope that everybody enjoys tonight's game and let's hope that this cup run can continue. Robbie
NOTES FROM THE CHAIRMAN Welcome to our friends from Corby Town for the second of three games in three weeks. We can all agree that it was a cracking cup tie on Saturday and that a draw was, on reflection, a fair result. That said, when you are 3-2 up away from from home with minutes to go and the ref gives a soft free kick to the home team, you just know what is going to happen!! The team were terrific for most of the first game with a work rate that was second to none. Seeing Lee Chaffey lead the defence with two teenagers and a new full back alongside him, was magnificent. A worthy mention also goes to Finlay for another excellent penalty save in an excellent game. Off the pitch, the club membership is gaining real momentum with a good number of fully signed up members now on board so this is a reminder for all who haven't joined to do so and not miss out. Due to the quick turnaround of the two cup ties, I will keep these notes short and will finish by saying that I hope this game tonight will be on par with, if not better than, Saturday's game and that we all enjoy a good night. Come on you Greens!! Mark G

SOHAM TOWN RANGERS A brief history Soham Town Rangers were formed in 1947 as a result of a merger between Soham Rangers (Formed 1919) and Soham Town (Formed 1920). The Julius Martin Lane ground, which at the time was the home of Soham Town, is still the home of the club today, after it was purchased in 1952. The new club started life in the Cambs League, also running a Reserve team. In 1956, they joined the Peterborough League where they were to remain until 1963. During their time there, they won the league and the league cup on three separate occasions. A measure of the level of support enjoyed by non-league clubs in those days was the fact that on their first home game of the season, on August 22nd 1956, a local derby against near neighbours Ely City, over 500 match day programmes were sold - Unfortunately, the 6-2 drubbing for the hosts took the shine off the day. The club joined the Eastern Counties League in 1963 and remained there until 2008. During this time, considerable ground development has taken place - The social club was built in 1968, new dressing rooms and showers were erected in 1979, along with a grandstand extension. In 1981, a lounge bar extension was added to the social club. Floodlights were erected in 1983 and were inaugurated by the visit of an Arsenal XI in front of 1200 spectators. A new grandstand eventually replaced the original wooden structure at the beginning of the 1990’s, whilst various other developments have taken place in order to qualify the club to compete at step four in the non-league pyramid. Soham enjoyed considerable success in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup during the 1990’s, winning it on three separate occasions, including for the first time in their history in 1991 defeating March Town United, before repeating the feat again in 1998 and 1999 against Wisbech Town and Newmarket Town respectively. The Greens were also the first winners of the Eastern Counties Millennium League Cup, when they defeated Diss Town on penalties in the final in 2001. The 2007-08 season was to be the clubs most successful season to date winning the Eastern Counties Premier Division for the first time, beating nearest challengers Needham Market 4-0 on the final day of the season to clinch the title in front of 680 spectators at the Lane, and with it promotion to the Southern League for the first time in their history.
In the first three seasons in the Southern League, Soham recorded finishes of 15th, 11th and 17th. At the end of the 2010-11 campaign, Ian Benjamin, who had been at the club for six seasons and was in charge of the 2008 title winning side, stepped down from his position as 1st Team Manager. Soham transferred to the Isthmian League Division One North for the 2011/12 season with former striker Andrew Furnell returning to take over as Player/Manager. However with the Greens languishing near the foot of the table, Furnell was replaced by former Histon Managers Steve Fallon and Ian Hart in March, with the club finishing the season fourth from bottom. It was a successful campaign for the club’s other sides though, with the Reserves returning to the Kershaw Premier Division after finishing as runners-up in Cambs Senior A, whilst the Under 18s progressed to the 1st round of the FA Youth Cup, where they were beaten by Charlton Athletic in front of a crowd of over 500 people at the Lane. The 2012/13 season saw Soham record their highest ever League position, finishing seventh in the Isthmian League North Division, five points outside the play-offs. Soham won the Cambs Invitation Cup for the fifth time in their history in 2014 beating CRC 6-1 at the Abbey Stadium, but were unable to retain the trophy the following season, narrowly losing 2-1 to Cambridge City in the final. Soham did finish the season with an accolade though, winning the Isthmian League Respect award for the second consecutive year having gone through the season having not collected any dissent points, which saw the club commended in the end of season FA Respect and Fair Play awards. Following a difficult start to the 2015/16 campaign, Steve Fallon stepped down as Manager at the start of October to be replaced by senior players Robbie Nightingale and David Theobald, who eventually guided the Greens to seventeenth position before leaving to take over at Cambridge City in December 2016. Rob Mason was appointed player/manager, and following a difficult start, finished the season seven games unbeaten, with the Greens securing their League survival on the final day of the campaign with a 4-3 home win against Maldon and Tiptree, with two goals in the final five minutes. The last two completed seasons have seen finishes of thirteenth and sixteenth in the table. Having run with only one senior side last year, the club reformed the Reserves and A Team for the 2019-20 campaign, with both sides competing in the Cambridgeshire County League. This season marks 100 years of football being played at Julius Martin Lane, with the club arranging a number of events to mark the occasion.

Welcome to Todays Visitors CORBY TOWN FC Corby Town Football Club were formed in 1948 and are the second club to represent the town, following Stewarts & Lloyds Corby, who were formed 13 years earlier in 1935. The club’s nickname ‘The Steelmen’ derives from the old steelworks that were in Corby. The first Chairman of the club was local MP William Montgomery, whilst Reg Smith was named the first manager. Smith had previously played for Millwall and Dundee whilst representing England at international level. Things started well for the newly formed Steelmen, winning their first game 5-1 against Wellingborough Town on 21 August 1948 at Occupation Road, which was home to Corby Town until the move to the Rockingham Triangle in 1985. It took the club only three years to win their first title, wrapping up the United Counties League in 1951 before doing the same again only a year later, with Ernie Middlemiss scoring a club record 135 goals in 136 games, a record that was to stand for 40 years. 1958 saw the introduction of floodlit football in Corby and in the same year the club moved from the Midland League to the Southern League. The move to the Southern League looked to be a good one as the club narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier Division in 1964, but promotion was gained the following year. The club made several unsuccessful applications to join the Football League, although they did receive one vote in 1966. The club moved to the multi-purpose Rockingham Triangle venue in 1985 but it didn’t prove to be a lucky move as the Steelmen were once again relegated from the Premier Division in 1990. They didn’t spend long out of the Premier as they achieved a league and cup double the following season. The mid-90s saw a cash crisis at the club which threatened to put the club out of business, and although they were spared, relegation was to follow. The turn of the Millennium brought about more positivity at the Triangle as they consolidated their mid-table position in the Dr Martens League. More was to follow in 2005 as they just missed out on a play-off place under manager Rob Dunion. Dunion’s side went one better in 2006 as they were promoted once more. Corby Town saw a change of ownership in 2007 as a new board made up of ex-Kettering Town chairman Peter Mallinger, David Dunham and Mick Leech and in 2009, under Graham Drury, the Steelmen won the Southern League title. The Steelmen narrowly missed out on a play-off spot during their first season in the Conference North. Club chairman Peter Mallinger sadly passed away in January 2011, just months before the club’s new 3,000 capacity Steel Park stadium was due to open. His son David Mallinger took charge of the club and a positive start to life in their new home led the Steelmen into play-off contention and the first round proper of the FA Cup, where they were beaten by Bristol Rovers at the half-way stage. Sadly off-field issues had an effect on results and Corby only managed to avoid relegation on the final day of the 2011/12 season, with Graham Drury leaving the club at the end of the campaign. In the summer of 2012, a Leicestershire businessman took control of the club, with Ian Sampson being installed as manager. However after a tough start to the season Sampson departed and was replaced by his assistant manager Chris Plummer. The former Peterborough Northern Star manager could not repeat the survival act of the previous year however, with Corby Town being relegated from the Blue Square North at the end of the season.
Welcome to Todays Visitors CORBY TOWN FC Plummer remained in charge of the side, however resigned just two games into the 2013/14 season after heavy defeats against Burnham and Hemel Hempstead Town. The Chairman moved to appoint the managerial duo of Tommy Wright and Andrew Wilson, who helped to guide the club up the Southern League Premier Division table, however once again financial issues at the club prevented any real challenge to reach the play- offs. In April 2014 it was announced that a local consortium of seven businessmen headed by Paul Glass had agreed a deal to purchase the club and save it from the threat of administration. Stevie Noble was appointed as the Chairman and Tommy Wright was given sole charge of the first team, with Andrew Wilson departing. In his first year in charge of the side Tommy Wright led his team to the Southern League Premier Division Championship. The Steelmen secured the title and promotion back to the Conference North with a dramatic 3-2 win on the final day of the season against Poole Town who had led the division by one point going into that fixture. Spencer Weir-Daley scored the winning goal for Corby with just nine minutes remaining. However Corby suffered relegation after just one season in the National North. After a period ofuncertainty as to which league Corby would be placed in by The FA we now make our first ever start in the Northern Premier League for season 2016/2017. Tommy Wright was relieved of his position in early October 2016 after a poor start, he was replaced by Gary Mills ex-Kings Lynn, and Wrexham Assistant manager in mid-October 2016 as Corby look to kick start season 2016/2017. However Mills was relieved of his position after just 6 months, the job being placed in Steven Kinniburgh’s hands for the rest of this season 2016/2017 ( Caretaker) In early May 2017 David Bell was appointed Manager along with Rob Gould as his Assistant as Corby hope they can succeed in getting the club back into the fourth tier after two relegations in succession tumbling from the National North through to the Northern Premier Leagues in successive seasons. After a poor start to the 2017/2018 season the club parted company with them in late September 2017. Director of Football Steven Kinniburgh taking charge in a capacity of interim manager. Steven was made permanent manager in late March 2018. He appointed Ashley Robinson as his assistant in June 2018. Kinniburgh resigned his position in July 2019. Corby appointed senior players Gary Mulligan and Ash Robinson interim managers with Elliot Sandy as assistant to them. Mark Peters was installed as Temporary Manager in Feb 2020. In May 2020 Tommy Wright returned as Manager, he led Corby to the Conference North (now National ) in his first spell. However Tommy resigned weeks before the start of the season due to family concerns. Corby then appointed Gary Mills as Manager, Gary found fame with Leicester in the Premier Division before managing York City back to the Football League and winning the FA Trophy in the same season. Gary has appointed Darron Gee as his Assistant. Corby found themselves moved back to the NPL by The FA in May 2021 joining the new Midlands Division.
