STRASBURG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DECEMBER ROCK CONNECTION Johnnie Echer, Interim principal Thankful and Grateful One of my favorite Christmas books I would read to my kids when they were younger was “ How the Grinch stole Christmas.” This year I feel like we have had a bit of a grinch in our lives trying to take away our joy. Like Whoville, the community of Stras- burg didn’t allow that to happen. The teachers and staff know learning begins with compassion and caring. I am humbled by how dedicated and hardworking our staff is. They have faced every challenge with grace and a positive attitude. When I visit class- rooms, I see students learning and growing both academically and socially. Students have also faced adversity and have become stronger. I see young leaders emerging and as parents you should be very proud of your child’s progress. None of this could have been possible without the help of all of you. The support that we have been given from families has been overwhelming. Whenever we need anything from canopies, to meals and supplies for teachers , you have ensured that our teachers have what they need and I am truly grateful for all of you. The Grinch is correct... "Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christ- mas...perhaps...means a little bit more?" I hope everyone has a very happy holiday! PE NEWS Students are playing a variety of tag games, Rollerball, Bowling Pin Frenzy, and a unique version of Hide and Seek. In grades K-2 our focus is on moving safely among others, playing by the rules, proper form when throwing, and taking turns. In grades 3-5 students focus on formulating strategies, playing by the rules, winning and losing gracefully, and accountability. Your child has PE every other day, please remember tennis shoes for your child. A good idea is to keep tennis shoes in his/her backpack…just in case. ART NEWS Ho Ho Ho! Happy Holidays! The theme for the month is "Winter Wonderland". We are go- ing to make some festive holiday projects featuring snowflakes, snow, and tinsel. Our skills will include the principle of Unity and the elements of Color and Value. For our materials this month we will continue using recycled items, as well as wood, wire, paint, cotton and fab- ric. Thanks to my student's for all their great art ideas, and for this month's suggestions. “Look at life with the eyes of a child.” ~ Henri Matisse “I just decided, when someone says you can’t do something. COUNSELOR’S CORNER RESPECT DECEMBER 2021 CHARACTER TRAIT This month, as part of Strasburg Elementary School’s Character Education program, the high- lighted character trait is RESPECT. Respect means to honor and to show consideration and value to people, property, the environment, and yourself. It means to treat others well even if they look, act, or believe differently than you do. Dictionary definition: regard highly; think much of; courteous regard for people's feelings; an attitude of admiration or esteem; a feeling of friendship and esteem. We will be encouraging SES students to be more aware of their actions this month in remem- bering the following: • We treat others the way we want to be treated. • We take time to learn about, and give consideration to our differences. • We listen and do not interrupt. • We are on time. • We use good manners. • We follow the rules. • We resolve problems peacefully, without insults or hurting others. • We take good care of ourselves, our things, and our environment. Please note below a list of some of the books that we will be reading with the students at all grade levels in the elementary school. We encourage parents and/or grandparents to read aloud to your child (ren) any of the listed books below, as well.
