Security • All parents must report to the main office when entering the school. • Any parent helper must have a Working With Children’s Check and sign in at the office • All doors in the Learning Communities are locked from the outside except for the main door. • No student will be allowed to be removed from the Learning Community without a slip from the office. • The slip will only be given to parents or emergency contacts
Parking and the Drop Off Zone • Please use the drop off zone before and after school • Follow the directions of the staff member on yard duty • You must use the pedestrian crossing and follow the directions of the crossing supervisor • Parking is available on the street, but please be aware of the signs • Please do not park in carparks • There is no right turn allowed out of the drop off zone
Attendance • Attendance is a legal requirement • Attendance levels are an indication of future educational achievement • Foundation is one of the MOST important years • Overseas holidays need to be approved by the principal • You must call the office in the morning if your child is absent • The office will send a text if you have not called. Please reply by contacting us on the school app Xuno • All absences MUST be explained • We reward perfect attendance at assemblies
The Playground • There are three teachers on yard duty at all times. • Yard Duty teachers are easily identified by fluorescent jackets. • Students will play in a designated area for Term 1 that is close to their Learning Community.
Sick bay • Any child who is sick or injured will be sent to sick bay. • A qualified first aid officer will treat students. • Parents/caregivers will be contacted if necessary. • All children who have attended sick bay will receive a slip to indicate treatment received.
A Typical Day Session 1: (9.00am – 10.00am) Maths Session 2: (10.00am – 11.00am) Reading Inside lunch eating time (11.00am – 11.15am) Session 3: (12.00noon - 1.00pm) Investigations Session 4: (1.00pm – 2.00pm) Writing Recess (2.00pm – 2.20pm) Session 5: (2.20pm – 3.20pm) Literature/Spelling/Personal Development Rotations
Specialist programs: Integrated Auslan as LOTE Every Thursday: • Performing Arts • Physical Education • Visual Arts • STEM Term 4: • Swimming program (recommended) Assembly on Friday at 3:00pm
Special Events • Excursions and incursions • Harmony Day • 100 Days of School • Dress up days (footy colours, pyjama day, education week) • ArtsMania and Design and Technology Expo • End of year celebrations
Healthy Lunch Pack a healthy lunch and explain when each item should be eaten. At school we eat lunch first, then our snack later. For example: • Sandwiches/wraps/rolls • Fruit or vegetables • 1 treat only • Water Please do NOT provide lollies or anything containing nuts.
Drink • Make sure your child is used to drinking water as this is the only drink allowed at school • Provide your child with a labelled drink bottle that contains water Please do NOT send any other drinks to school
Sleep and bed time • Establish a routine with a set bedtime to ensure your child gets enough sleep. (10 – 12 hours per night) • If you want to wake up at 7am, go to sleep at 7pm • If you want to wake up at 8am, go to sleep at 8pm
Uniforms • Full school uniform is compulsory every day Summer uniform Winter uniform Terms 1 and 4 Terms 2 and 3 • Black shoes are to be worn with the full school uniform. • School hats must be worn from September to April • Hair is to be tied back with black or blue accessories
Uniforms • Sports uniforms are worn on Thursdays only • Runners are to be worn with sports uniforms • All students must have the Glenroy Central Primary School backpack Please do not send your child to school with another backpack
Communication • Take home book bag and diary • All notes and newsletters will be sent on the school app – Xuno • Please make appointments with the teachers for any concerns or questions as we need to start our learning in the mornings and have meetings after school
Birthdays • Birthdays are a special occasion acknowledged by singing a Happy Birthday song by their peers and wearing a birthday badge/sticker for the day – we always make the child feel special • We ask that party celebrations remain out of school hours – please do not send along cakes or lollies to share as it does not comply with our healthy eating policy and many students have allergies
Getting your child ready for Foundation: Encourage your child to be independent by helping them learn how to: ✔put on and do up their ✔ wash their hands after shoes using the toilet ✔eat and drink without help ✔ use playground equipment (opening lunchboxes, safely wrapping and unwrapping food, drinking from a drink ✔ identify their own bottle) belongings ✔use a tissue to blow their ✔ put on and take off their nose jumper ✔carry their own bag ✔ ask to use the toilet

Saying goodbye on the first day • At first you might stay a while to ensure that your child feels secure at school • Once they have settled into school, a short and reassuring goodbye encourages independence • Always tell your child when you are leaving • Tell your child who is picking them up after school • Be guided by the teachers
The 2021 Foundation Pack contains: • Student name written in Victorian Cursive handwriting • Picture storybook to read • Welcome to Glenroy Central Primary School book • Whiteboard marker and eraser • Alphabet chart • Maths resource pack • Appointment time for 2021 • To be collected from school on the 29th of October
Important dates 2021 Students in Years 1 to 6 will start on Friday the 29th of January. On Friday 29th and Monday 1st February, Foundation students will have an individual appointment time for testing purposes and the teachers will get to know your child. Friday 29th January – Individual appointment time Monday 1st February– Individual appointment time Foundation students will start full time on Tuesday the 2nd February 2021
