Apps! We know how much you love using your phones, tablets and laptops for leisure-based activities. Did you know there are SO many apps to give you inspiration to keep active and healthy at home? Here is a short list and a brief breakdown of some great apps! Nike Training Club – With over 185 free workouts, one of the leading sports brands in the world offers a fantastic app that can pair with your Apple Watch as well as working for Android owners as well! ‘Map My’ Series – Under Armour offer a range of free apps, under the ‘Map My’ name, from everything to Map My Walk, Run Cycle and Fitness Workout – these apps are great for recording your personal info as well. Peloton – The good news is you do not need to own one of the brands bikes to have the app, they have guided exercises across multiple fitness categories, and they are currently offering a free 90-day trial! FitOn – A very popular app that offers free workouts for HIIT, Pilates, Yoga and Strength Training to name a few! Lots of workouts have challenges and you can tailor them to your own needs! 7 Minute Workout – An app we are sure you have heard of before, that does what it says on the tin! 7MW is based on High Intensity Circuit Training and is certainly a very efficient way to improve your fitness! Freeletics – This app offers personal training, virtually! Again, HIIT workouts are extremely popular within this app as well as letting you set goals and track your progress from day to day! SoSweat – The great thing about this app is you can do live workouts with your friends! If you both have the app you can connect and workout together, if you’re in need of some inspiration and conversation in between your efforts! Yoga Studio – Why not try and improve your flexibility while tapping into your mental health. Yoga Studio offers over 190 free videos for you to follow along to and will help your body prior to playing team sport again! On You Couch to 5K – This app is tailored around the fact we are all at home. You can follow a . programme, while listening to your own music at the same time! A great, fun app. Strava – One that lots of you probably already have, but a great app that has local leader boards where you can compare yourself against others or track alone if you have access to the great outdoors, either on your bike, or on foot! Gymshark Workout Planner – Gymshark have made their home workouts free and accessible for you to complete in your own home with their trainers! Homecourt – This app started out as a basketball specific app, however, the app is now multi- sport related. It is probably the most enjoyable app on the list, with lots of different challenges
and games you can do, using your phone as the ‘game screen’ while you use the camera to complete the challenges you are set! Movies, Documentaries & Podcasts! During your down time, after a day of remote learning, you may want to put on a film, or a documentary based around sport or pop your headphones in and listen to a podcast. There are so many fantastic media sources, all based around sport, out there on multiple platforms that we think you need to see/hear if you haven’t already! P.S try and fill in our generic question sheet and see if you were really paying attention to what you watched! Netflix
Apple/Spotify Sport Superstars It’s not always easy when you do not have access to a library constantly to keep on top of your reading, so why not use the internet to find out information about your favourite sports stars? Here are a few ideas of sport stars with epic back stories that will inspire and surprise all the same! Can you search further to learn more about these stars and then fill out our task sheet with your findings?!
From top to bottom, going left, to right we have the following sports stars, Kieran Behan, Bethany Hamilton, Michael Phelps, Michael Oher, Monica Seles, Mike Tyson, Carlos Tevez, Ravindra Jadeja, Manny Pacquiao, Lee Trevino, Sandeep Singh and Stan Smith. These are just a few you may not know about, but by all means research your favourite sports stars and tell us all about how they got to where they are today! Sports Websites! Lots of popular sports websites have adapted to the current situation and have a vast array of things for you to do at the end of your school day, on the weekends or in any spare time you have. Below is a list of a few websites we think are worth checking out for their videos, resources, articles and more. Get Active have a full range of virtual activities for you to take part in, all embedded on their website for you to access at any time! https://getactive.io/ England Athletics have made their ‘365 Athlete Handbook’ totally free. Jr NBA are offering practice plans regardless of your ability level on their website, allowing you to download session plans and even do them at the same time as a YouTube video, which includes some famous faces! https://jr.nba.com/ Fitness Blender has a fantastic search tool that allows you to tailor the workout to your needs. You can specify equipment, the type of training and even the difficulty level. https://www.fitnessblender.com/ Darebee is full of visual challenges and workouts for you to choose from and do at your own leisure. You will be able to search specifically for the area of the body you want to focus on and complete with or without equipment! https://darebee.com/ Youth Sport Trust has a variety of activity cards that cover vast areas of the PE curriculum. Cards are downloadable and some come with videos to work along with. Check them out! https://www.youthsporttrust.org/pe-home-learning SS PE Department Circuit Challenge! Our personalised challenge for you, gives you a feel for your PE teachers favourite sports and areas of excellence in a simple 10 station circuit! You can complete all of them with no equipment, however, if you have kit, feel free to include it! Follow along with whichever circuit you want. Do a circuit just once, three times through or try one round of every circuit- you choose!
