From Our Pastor Dear Friends, We are s ll figh ng the pandemic, and it looks like during this beau ful month of May, we s ll will be locked down in our homes or apartments. I always loved this month, filled with flowers blooming, trees becoming green, warmer weather. It’s also a month for making plans for the summer and, for young people, it’s a me for making decisions regarding their future: new schools, new friends, and new beginnings. But this par cular month of May will be very different for all of us. We can s ll enjoy the beauty of the world around us and enjoy (hopefully) nicer weather, but we won’t be able to witness our young students receiving the Eucharist for their first me, we cannot celebrate gradua ons, and it will be very difficult to make any plans for the summer. We are s ll in the pandemic, and nobody knows what this summer will look like. Well, I certainly pray and believe that we will be coming back to our everyday lives very soon. But the month of May is also about something else. The month of May always ‘belongs’ to the Blessed Virgin Mary. We Catholics believe that she truly is the Mother of God who was taken to Heaven and now has a special place there. She can always intercede for us. So, I would like to encourage you to dedicate this month to Her. Perhaps now even more than before we can find me to pray and meditate on the mysteries of the rosary, or we can recite the litany to the Blessed Virgin Mary, or simply decorate her picture or statue that we may have in our homes -- even those outside so our neighbors can witness that She has a special place not only in our tradi on but also in our homes and hearts. Over and over again, we pray the Hail Mary, Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. When we do this, we are asking her to use her unique rela onship to God to call upon Him to care for us. That is why the Rosary is such a powerful prayer. In the rosary we are recognizing Mary’s role in our salva on as the Mother of God and our mother. I believe that she is with us now, and she understands more than anyone else what we are going through: that we are red, we are angry and miss our lives. As we go through this lockdown for another month, let us invite the Blessed Virgin Mary to be with us every day of this month. I am sure that it will be much Image by Fr. Kris Janczak easier having Her close and asking Her to intercede for us. Something to know: May 3rd marks Polish Cons tu on Day, so I want to wish happy Cons tu on Day to all of my Polish friends and those who celebrate that important event of our history. We may see a mix of many Polish and Mexican flags these upcoming days, since May 2nd is a flag day in Poland, and our Mexican friends celebrate Cinco de Mayo, the anniversary of an early victory by Mexican forces over French forces in the Ba le of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It is not the anniversary of the defeat and expulsion of the French forces by the Mexicans, that occurred in 1867. Happy May to all! Fr. Kris 3

STV School News From the Principal’s Desk Well, we don’t get to see our students in our classrooms un l the fall. For as difficult as it is on the families, it is also heartbreaking for the teachers and staff, who have built up a strong rela onship with each of their students. Each teacher is feeling the loss of “his/her” children. There ARE some posi ve side effects of this en re pandemic. Families and en re communi es are coming together to support each other. Recogni on and help are being offered to our front line workers. The number of families seen taking walks together, ac vely playing in their yards, bike riding, flying kites, etc. has exponen ally risen. Students are increasing their levels of responsibility and have more ownership in me management and deadlines. Everyone involved in the school community has elevated their proficiency in tech skills and knowledge. With this also comes the realiza on and apprecia on of what our friends, family, and school community mean to us. We miss all the individuals who comprise our “family,” and we can’t wait to see each other again. Please keep all our school family members in your prayers! We are working on a safe plan for the end of the year process for returning personal items to and from school. We are also inves ga ng op ons for end of the year celebra ons, including 8th grade, kindergarten, and preschool gradua ons. We have another month and a half of learning before this occurs! We are s ll receiving dona ons for scholarships! Thanks, FOSTOVS, for con nuing your efforts in raising money for not only school equipment, but also for needed scholarships.
