St. Luke’s Preschool Summer Blog June 2021 The preschool year ended with lots of special events, exciting activities, fun, and memory- making moments! The end came too quickly as we wrapped up our studies, shared time with our buddies, let our friends know how much they mean to us, and celebrated our year with our families. We hope you were all able to access the videos of your child’s End-of-the-Year Singing Programs, the Friday Student Play, & the Buddies’ Osprey Books!!
As the weather warmed up and the plants brightened our yard the preschoolers spent more of their time outside learning about nature. When indoors they made the bug hotel, wrote about farms and plants, painted and arranged flowers and spring trees, made paper, discussed caring for our earth and for each other, and prepared for our end-of-the-year celebrations and goodbye thank yous. They watched videos about recycling and critters and Spanish videos about families, celebrations, and colors. We read books about all these topics, sang and danced, and played with their favorite materials one more time. There was fun and learning all day through CAMP! Ellie- We’ve been planting flowers all around the school. Tyree- The flowers are beautiful. Anna- There were flower branches to paint. They were very pretty. Graham- I liked making the flower arrangements for the moms. We used branches. It was Ikebana. Charlotte- I like making the Mother’s Day gifts- the flowers. Grace- Me too because Mom was super duper happy! Cody- I liked playing in the farm in the Home Corner. Penny- I liked making the bug hotel We put in pinecones, moss, dead leaves, & bark. We put 2 long wood pieces together & 2 little ones. We put it in the garden. The bugs will visit it. We want the bugs to eat the bad bugs & pollinate the flowers. Claire- The bees get the pollen from the other plants. Luca- We want the bugs to visit the bug hotel. Grace- Because we love bugs. I love worms, too. They help the plants grow. Holden- I love worms, too, because they’re funny. Tyree- I love the play so much. It’s so fun. I’m pretending to be the farmer.
The Wednesday & Friday Student highlights were Field Day, the Grade 8 Talent Show, the trip to the creek, & the play. Leon- We went to Field Day at the Big School. Aki- I liked the Tug-of-War at Field Day. We were very strong! And I liked the game with the blocks. You pull them out without knocking them down. (Giant Jenga) Cian- I liked the Tug-of-War too. Ellie- I was excited about going to the creek. Dominic- I like the creek & being with my buddy Braedon. Nola- I saw something blowing bubbles in the water with white things popping up. Penny- It was funny they had to grab the frog & hold it. It was green with spots. Aki- We used a net to catch a silver fish & a lobster (crayfish). Anna- The buddies use nets to take the trash out of the creek. Mrs. Dennis- Why do you think the buddies take the trash out of the creek? Why do they take the animals out, look at them, write down what they found, & then put them back in the creek? Do you know that you & the buddies are Citizen Scientists. What are Citizen Scientists? Graham- They are people who learn about things. Penny- The buddies take trash out of the creek, so the animals don’t eat it & get it in their bodies. Graham- They take out the trash, so the fish won’t get scratched by the sharp trash. Tyree- The animals need healthy food. They eat bad bugs- the bugs that sting & bite people. Aki- If Pelicans think trash is food & eat it they will get sick or die. Graham- If you put trash on the sand the ocean will come up & pull it out into the water & the fish will think it’s food. If they eat the trash they will die. Penny- The buddies learn about the animals & the water. They tell people about what they find out. Mrs. Dennis- What did they find out about the creek because it had big fish, crayfish, & a big frog this trip. Tyree- They know that the water is healthy so the animals can eat good food & grow.
The children observed many things at the creek & while on their woodland walk. . . Alex- I heard the birds in the woods. Leon- We saw plants. Penny- There was moss. JP, Anna, Dominic- There was a turkey! Tyree- I saw a nest in the tree. Aki- There was a big hollow in a tree. Cian- I saw snails at the creek. Graham- I saw a moth & a water spider at the creek. Many children listed the fish, the frog, & the crayfish observed at the creek.
