“Where else in the world can you see wild horses, ostrich and oryx at the same water hole?” NAMIBIA WILDLIFE AND WILD HORSE PHOTOGRAPHY ADVENTURE NOVEMBER 15-30, 2021 (open to 6 people) This trip includes, Etosha Wildlife Park, The Skeleton Coast, Sossuvlei Dunes, Ghost Towns and the iconic Namib Horses. Our local guide is the incomparable Dr. Telane Greyling, zoologist, rider, and expert on the Namib horses. Her vast knowledge in this area comes from a lifetime of studying the horses and other wildlife, as well as being a partner in Namib Horse Safaris. She is our driver and guide for the entire trip as we travel in a luxury 4x4 stretch vehicle. Day 1) Arrive in the capital city of Windhoek and short transfer to Moonraker Adventure camp for one night’s stay. The camp has a variety of domestic animals as well as game species like eland, wildebeest, oryx, impala etc. Day 2) Drive 5 hours to Etosha National Park and have an afternoon shoot at the water hole. Etosha is world renowned for its elephant population and we will also expect to see rhino, zebra and many other game species here.
Day 3 and 4 will also be spent at Etosha National Park. Etosha means “great white place” in the Ovambo language and refers to the ancient salt pans which dominate the area. These vast pans and savanna are traveled constantly by wildlife coming and going from grazing to water holes. Day 5) Sunrise drive through Etosha and then proceeding on to drive through Uis and Hentiesbay arriving at Swakopmund on the Atlantic coast. Swakopmund is described as a ‘surreal remnant of Colonial times. Day 6) Depending on the coastal weather we may take some horses for a ride in the dunes, or along the beach in the morning, and then take an aerial tour of the Skeleton Coast. The coast is stunning to view from the air, where sand meets sea!
Day 7) Depart the coast and drive through Namib Naukluft Park via Kuiseb Canyon to lunch at Soliter (4 hours) arrive early afternoon at Dune Star Camp on the dunes of the Namib Sand Sea. Sunset on dunes or at petrified dune cliffs. Here we can sleep under the stars by moving beds to outdoor balconies! Day 8) Morning walk on dunes. Drive to Sossusvlei for lunch, see Sesriem Canyon. Sunset at Dunes. Day 9) Sunrise at Dead Vlei, Sunset at dunes. Day 10) Helicopter flight over dunes in the morning and then drive to Klein Aus Vista (5 hours) where we will stay for 3 nights. Day 11) Garub Station & area tour of the wild horse range and water hole where we will photograph the Namib Horses. The Namib horses date back to the First World War when the South African Army camp was bombed by German planes. Thousands of horses at the camp were lost into the desert and evolved to
survive the harsh climate. Their range is restricted by the only source of water at the old Garub train station which sees a constant flow of wildlife including ostrich, oryx and of course, the beautiful horses. Day 12) Photography of Wild Horses and other wildlife Day 13) Photography of Wild Horses, possible drive to Luderitz for coastal wildlife. Day 14) Early drive to Kolmanskop for photography of old ghost town reclaimed by the sand. Mid-day flight from there back to Windhoek. Day 15) Departures from Windhoek.
