WE ARE UWS SIRENS S IS FOR STORY… 2017 saw the launch of Scotland’s most exciting new sports Franchise, and the country’s only semi-pro women’s sports team with a TV broadcast deal. The UWS Sirens compete in the UK-wide, Sky Sports televised Vitality Netball Superleague, playing their home games in the £113m Emirates Arena in Glasgow. The Sirens blazed a trail onto the Scottish sporting landscape in February and immediately made an impact that resonated across the UK, and across the globe. With a ground-breaking brand and vision, and a #ChangingTheGame campaign message, the Sirens meant business… on and off the court. The sell-out televised Arena launch received national recognition, and this Award winning team commanded some of the biggest TV and live spectator viewing audiences in the league in their debut season. With UK wide press coverage, a Government endorsed community engagement programme, some of the sport’s highest profile female athletes and a growing army of fans, the Sirens are leading the way for female sport in Scotland and have even bigger ambitions for Season 2. SIRENS FOR SUCCESS #CHANGINGTHEGAME…ON AND OFF THE COURT As the Team hit the court in February, very important work off it was also taking place. Far more than just a ‘team in a League’, UWS Sirens has been committed from the outset to driving real, meaningful change for women’s sport, and this is evidenced no more so than with the launch of the high profile, and extremely powerful SIRENS FOR SUCCESS programme. This programme targets girls on the brink of disengaging with physical activity and encourages healthy active lifestyle choices. Using positive role models and delivered in a safe and fun environment, the teenagers take part in a series of classroom based interactive workshops as well as active participation sessions. Delivered by UWS Sirens Captain, Claire Brownie, SIRENS FOR SUCCESS has received huge acclaim from Government Ministers and Educators for it’s significant impact, and was recently covered by Sky Sports News and Sky Sportswoman.
