"There are really two innovative forms of motorsport left, Formula One and Formula Student." -Ross Brawn
FORMULA STUDENT The Lausanne Racing Team will take part in Formula Student competitions from summer 2019, competing in the “electric vehicle” category. Formula Student race cars are open-wheeled single-seater prototypes, which are designed, built and tested by students only. Teams from everywhere around the world get to represent their university in week-long engineering venues in a number of different countries in Europe, in the United States, and in India. The cars are judged according to their performance on track, but also to the originality of their design, their reliability, and the good financial and production management performed by their student designers over the whole project. Those competitions are strictly monitored by engineers and experts from the automotive sector, under the supervision of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and supported by the entire automobile industry and some of its leading names, such as Ross Brawn (former Mercedes AMG Formula 1 team director). Those competitions are the biggest engineering student competitions in the world. Beyond the scope of the automotive sector, they give students the opportunity to work on a very ambitious project. Building a car in one year is a technical, managerial and financial feat, that requires a tremendous amount of work and allows to build significant knowledge and skills in a short period of time. They are highly competitive events: renown universities intend to build the best race car in an exhibit of innovation, technology, and professionalism. Formula Student Germany
THE LAUSANNE RACING TEAM Reflecting on the ambition and motivation of many students, the Lausanne Racing Team was founded in November 2017 at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), and became a school-recognized association in November 2018. 64 MEMBERS: - Mostly coming from Mechanical Engineering and Micro-engineering departments of EPFL - Highly motivated, and most of them are fairly pleasant people - Divided in five technical teams : Chassis, Powertrain, Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, Electronics SUPPORT: - Recognized and supported by the school (manufacturing workshops, partial financial support, administration) - Sponsoring (financial and communication support) MOTIVATION: - Compete in a minimum of 3 competitions every year - Win in the next five years
CODE NAME: LRT-1 For a first appearance in the Formula Student world, the major design guideline was to build a reliable car, that would be able to compete from the very first year, and that would allow the team to evolve on a solid base and achieve some great results in the years to come. Here are some general technical specifications of our car. 80 kW electric motor (approx. 110 hp) Double wishbone and 360 pouch-cell battery pack pushrod suspensions Aerodynamic package generating 650N of downforce at 20m/s Tubular steel chassis Linen fiber composite parts
