Her Assumption is Our Elevation
Proverbs 26:12 has this sobering reminder: “You see those who are wise in their own eyes? There is more hope
for fools than for them.” Paradoxically, seeking wisdom can result in losing it. This means we need to be wary of the
attitude of mastering or owning wisdom. Instead, the author advises us: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on
your own intelligence do not rely… Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear the LORD and turn away from
evil” (Proverbs 3:5, 7). Thus, our proper and humble stance before the LORD is what matters, instead relying on our
own intelligence and achievements. This realization requires our incessant self-examination and conversion.
It never ceases to amaze me how there can be light or darkness in the human heart. Some follow good, truth,
and beauty, while others choose to espouse the path of darkness that leads to destruction of themselves and others.
We see darkness in many troubled hearts, especially in those who commit and condone hate-crimes.
Unfortunately, there are too many incidents in recent years. What kind of people can hate or kill other fellow human
persons or even little children? These hate groups have beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of
people, typically for their immutable characteristic. Examples in the US abound such as Ku Klux Klan, Neo-Nazis, White
Supremist, Christian Identity, Black Separatist, Anti-LGBT, Anti-immigrant, Anti-Islam, radical traditional Catholicism,
etc. The night in the soul is so dense that it prevents them from seeing the Creator in each of God’s cherished children.
On the other hand, when greeting Mary, Elizabeth saw not only a sister, a kinswoman, but also the mother of
her Lord who was in her. A special penetrating insight indeed! Both her heart and Mary’s were filled with light and
unfathomable joy. Mary put into words what she had experienced: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my
spirit rejoices in God my savior. The Almighty has done great things for me and holy is his name.”
Indeed, the Almighty has done great things for the mother of his own Son, which the Church believes in the
following terms: “the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly
life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory” (Pius XII, Munificentissimus Deus).
Despite many discouraging signs that degrade human dignity, we have the most encouraging sign of human
exaltation given by God. "The Assumption is the culmination of the struggle which involved Mary's generous love in the
redemption of humanity and is the fruit of her unique sharing in the victory of the Cross" (John Paul II, 2 July 1997).
“Blessed are the pure of heart, they shall see God.” God wants us to see his presence in each other. This is exactly
the reality of the Eucharist we celebrate. As we receive the Eucharist in communion, the minister proclaims to us, “Body
of Christ,” and we say “Amen”. So be it. So it is. All of us who receive the Eucharist become the body of Christ. May
the Spirit remove the cloud in our hearts!
The feast of Assumption is not just a celebration of Mary, but a celebration of redeemed humanity (Macquarrie).
The Church will reach its completeness only in the end, but it receives flashes of the final glory to encourage it on its
way. The Assumption of Mary, then, is the beginning of a more vast and cosmic assumption. What do we see in Mary?
Is it not the perfect flower of our glorious future?

year’s annuals are the gift of the Sodality of
Our Lady of the Wayside. And many

St. Jude Regional Catholic School
Welcome and Welcome Back!
Ms. Karen Murphy is our Resource Director. Ms. Murphy was our resource director a few years ago and
then she relocated to Florida, returned last year, and was at St. Raphael. She now has returned to St.
Jude as the Resource Director.
Mrs. Amy Rueth will be teaching 2nd grade. Her four children will also attend St. Jude. Welcome,
Maureen in PreK 4, Max 1st grade, Josh 3rd grade, and Lydia 5th grade. Welcome to St. Jude Mrs. Rueth
and family!
Mrs. Tiffany Brown is back after having a beautiful baby girl in April, and she will be teaching 1st grade.
Mrs. Michelle Ardillo is returning to us after taking a year off from teaching due to increased risks for
COVID. She is thrilled to return to her home parish school to teach middle school religion for the 2021-
2022 school year. Mrs. Ardillo served as youth minister for the Shrine of St. Jude from 2004-2007 and
taught religious education for over eight years.
Odyssey of the Mind is returning on Fridays with Mrs. Sutherland. Odyssey of the Mind (OM™), an inter-
national program, teaches students how to develop and use their natural creativity to become problem-
solvers.

Proverbios 26:12 tiene este recordatorio edificante: “¿Ves a los que son sabios en la opinión de ellos mismos?
Hay más esperanza para los necios que para ellos ". Paradójicamente, buscando sabiduría puede resultar en perderla.
Esto significa que debemos tener cuidado con la actitud de dominar o poseer la sabiduría. En cambio, el autor nos
aconseja: “Confía en el SEÑOR con todo tu corazón, no te apoyes en tu propia inteligencia… No seas sabio en tu
propia opinión, teme al SEÑOR y apártate del mal” (Proverbios 3: 5, 7). ). Por lo tanto, nuestra actitud apropiada y
humilde ante el SEÑOR es lo que importa, en lugar de confiar en nuestra propia inteligencia y logros. Esta realización
requiere nuestro incesante autoexamen y conversión.
Nunca deja de sorprenderme cómo puede haber luz u oscuridad en el corazón humano. Algunos siguen el bien,
la verdad y la belleza, mientras que otros eligen abrazar el camino de la oscuridad que conduce a la destrucción de ellos
mismos y de los demás.
Vemos oscuridad en muchos corazones atribulados, especialmente en aquellos que cometen y toleran los
crímenes de odio. Desafortunadamente, hay demasiados acontecimientos en los últimos años. ¿Qué clase de personas
pueden odiar o matar a otros seres humanos o incluso a niños pequeños? Estos grupos de odio tienen creencias o
prácticas que atacan o difaman a toda una clase de personas, generalmente por su característica inmutable. Abundan los
ejemplos en los Estados Unidos como el Ku Klux Klan, los neonazis, los supremacistas blancos, la identidad cristiana, los
separatistas negros, los anti-LGBT, los antiinmigrantes, los anti-islamistas, el catolicismo tradicional radical, etc. La noche
en el alma es tan oscura que les impide ver al Creador en cada uno de los hijos queridos de Dios.
Por otra parte, al saludar a María, Isabel vio no solo a una hermana, una pariente, sino también a la madre de su
Señor que estaba en ella. ¡Ciertamente, una visión especial y penetrante! Tanto su corazón como el de María se
llenaron de luz e insondable alegría. María expresó con palabras lo que había experimentado: “Mi alma proclama la
grandeza del Señor, mi espíritu se regocija en Dios mi salvador. El Todopoderoso ha hecho grandes cosas por mí y
santo es su nombre”.
En efecto, el Todopoderoso ha hecho grandes cosas por la madre de su propio Hijo, que la Iglesia cree en los
siguientes términos: “La Inmaculada Madre de Dios, la siempre Virgen María, habiendo completado el curso de su vida
terrena, fue asunta en cuerpo y alma a la gloria celestial” (Pío XII, Munificentissimus Deus).
A pesar de muchas señales desalentadoras que degradan la dignidad humana, tenemos la señal más alentadora de
la exaltación humana dada por Dios. "La Asunción es la culminación de la lucha que implicó el amor generoso de María
en la redención de la humanidad y es el fruto de su participación única en la victoria de la Cruz" (Juan Pablo II, 2 de
julio de 1997).
"Bienaventurados los de corazón limpio, porque ellos verán a Dios". Dios quiere que veamos su presencia el uno
en el otro. Esta es exactamente la realidad de la Eucaristía que celebramos. Al recibir la Eucaristía en la comunión, el
ministro nos proclama “El Cuerpo de Cristo” y nosotros decimos “Amén”. Que así sea. Así es. Todos los que recibimos
la Eucaristía nos convertimos en el cuerpo de Cristo. ¡Que el Espíritu quite la nube de nuestros corazones!
