Show the community you care about the history of Cheshire County - become a sponsor For 93 years the Historical Society of Cheshire County has been connecting people of the Monad- nock Region with local history stories. In 2020, when the only thing we could be certain of was uncertainty, our staff of six people did whatever it took to collect, preserve, and communicate local history that could be relevant and useful to the public. In 2021, we will continue to help people of all ages “find their place in history.” Wy Viral Stories: Tales for a Pandemic by Alan F. Rumrill One hundred years ago, women around the country won the right to vote with the pas- sage of the 19th amendment. A new section on our website celebrates empowered women from a local perspective. The unique and top-secret “Ghost Army” unit was capable of simulating two whole divisions (about 30,000 men) by using visual, sonic, and radio de- ception to fool German forces during the final year of World War II. Exhibit - New Hampshire 2020 - Opening October 1, 2021 About 75 members of the NH Society of Photographic Artists launched a project in 2020 to document the people, culture, architecture, industry, landscape, and events of the Granite State. The Historical Society of Cheshire County will be one of seven simultaneous exhibit venues across the state. Wyman Tavern Brew Fest - August 7, 2021 The Wyman Tavern Brew Fest has received rave reviews from brewers and visitors. About 25 brewers will be on hand to sample some of the finest craft beers, ciders, and spirits of the region. The event takes place on the grounds of the Wyman Tavern historic house museum and in- cludes food trucks, cooking demos by local chefs, and live music. Auction of Historic Proportions - September 24, 2021 The Auction of Historic Proportions will involve a silent auction, an online auction, and live bidding at the Historical Society’s headquarters, the Ball Mansion. Over 100 items with connections to Cheshire County will be available. For those who attend in person, it will be a “friend raising” event as well as a fundraising event. 18th century summer camp - July 2021 Two summer camps will be held on the grounds of the Wyman Tavern - one for 3-5 graders and one for 6-8 graders. Colonial Faire - June 19, 2021 Families can observe traditional artisans and craftspeople at work. Chil- dren can take part in hands-on activities and games. Candlelight Open House at the Wyman Tavern Oct 1, 2021 Families can journey back into the 18th century at a candlelight open house at the Wyman Tavern. Hindu Festival of Colors: Holi - April 24, 2021 Holi is a festival celebrated by Hindus in India, Nepal, and around the world where the Hindu community resides. It signifies arrival of spring with its abundant colors, as well as the triumph of good over evil. Finnish Tori/Marketplace - October 30, 2021 About 20 vendors of Finnish crafts, baked goods, books, clothing, and Christmas ornaments will set up shop for a day. The Tori/Marketplace is held in conjunction with the FinnFunn Festival.
