OPEN ENERGY PROGRAMME 2021 SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC X SUSTAINABLE VENTURES OPEN ENERGY PROGRAMME 2021 SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC X SUSTAINABLE VENTURES Open Energy The UK has set ambitious decarbonisation targets to reach Net Zero 2050 in line with the aim to limit global warming to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels. We’re looking for technologies Decarbonisation affects all aspects of the economy; in 2019 27% of net greenhouse gases in the UK were estimated to be from the transport sector, 21% from energy and solutions related to Open supply, 17% from business, 15% from the residential sector and 10% from agriculture (BEIS, 2021). Energy in a number of verticals, Energy is at the heart of decarbonisation for many of these sectors, for example, efforts focused on the electrification of transport, increasing renewable energy whereby selected technologies generation, efficiency and optimisation of energy consumption in the commercial sector and the transition to electrification of heating and energy consumption can leverage Schneider Electric’s within households. unique position as a key player in these markets. Transitioning to Net Zero presents significant challenges to the existing energy system including grid stability, storage requirements, flexibility, efficiency, meeting peak demand and the requirement for more robust infrastructure. Net Zero will not be possible without proper insight, coordination and planning across the energy system. Open Energy fosters an approach to underpin this, currently focused on improving data accessibility, visibility and governance, whereby data and digitalisation will be essential to understanding the wholistic system including assets and infrastructure, usage patterns, demand, supply and pricing. There has also been early development of new technologies and solutions that respond to Open Energy objectives and leverage the move towards data and digitalisation, for example, monitoring and predictive solutions. Schneider Electric sees the power of the Open Energy system and this competition is focused on developing and demonstrating use-cases for Open Energy across a variety of sectors that will be required to change and adapt to Net Zero 2050. 2|
