Course Planning Process 1. Classroom sessions with counselling team: Quarter 3, Period 1 class (early February 2021) 2. Google Form: online course planning form available on your Grad 2024 Google classroom on February 26, 2021. Google forms due no later than March 5, 2021. 3. Course request verifications available (April/May 2021)
Course Planning Resources Sentinel Course Handbook 2021-22 ● We strongly recommend that students and their families use the handbook to guide them through the course selection process ● The Course Handbook includes descriptions of ALL courses offered as well as course pathways for each department Sentinel Website ● Our website includes course planning presentations, course lists, and a link to the Course Handbook Human Resources ● Don’t forget to check in with family, school counsellors, teachers, and classmates
Grade 10 Timetable Grade 10 students must have a FULL timetable (8 courses minimum) 1. English 10 5. Physical Education 10 2. Math 10 6. Career Life Education 10 3. Science 10 7. Arts Ed. or Applied Design, Skills + Tech 4. Social Studies 10 8. Language (or other elective)

Students interested should go to the websites for more information. Summer School ● Summer School ○ Offered by various school districts ○ Online registration is the responsibility of the student ○ West Vancouver Schools Summer Learning opens for registration on May 1 ○ Other local options include: North Vancouver Summer Learning and Vancouver School Board Summer Experience NOTE: If websites do not include updated summer 2021 information, please check again soon. Also, COVID-19 may affect course availability, so students are encouraged to register early.
Online Courses ● Online courses provide students with added flexibility; however, they are not a good fit for everyone ● Students should ensure that their learning style and abilities suit online learning (i.e. highly self-motivated, self-disciplined, organized, etc.) ● Online schools are not affiliated with Sentinel Secondary, therefore it is the student’s responsibility to register for courses online ● Students should ensure online courses are recognized by the BC Ministry of Education ● Prerequisite courses must be completed (i.e. final marks posted) no later than August 15 if students are requesting the next level course for September ● Sentinel cannot guarantee a spot in requested courses at Sentinel, especially if the requests are for courses one or more grades ahead (note: priority goes to students in higher grades) ● Students should be aware of possible implications for post-secondary admissions (e.g. some schools/programs do not accept online courses)
