School Strategic Plan - 2019-2023 Coolaroo South Primary School (5554) School vision A connected community, learning with purpose. School values Learning: Commitment to Learning, Persistence, Participation, Being Curious and Being Challenged Respect: Showing Empathy, Respectful Communication and Respect for Property Safety: Physical Safety, Emotional Wellbeing and Acceptance Context challenges Coolaroo South’s community is diverse and draws from a wide range of socio economic and cultural backgrounds. The school enrolment is 250 primary aged children and 51 kindergarten aged children. The SFO is currently 0.86 with fluctuating enrolments due to the intake of new arrival and refugee families. The school population is transient with families moving in and out of the area throughout the school year due mainly to temporary housing arrangements. Student attendance continues to be a significant challenge. Levels of student engagement are impacted by family violence, disadvantage and trauma. There are a high number of families attending the school who do not have a background of engagement with schools and difficulties with the English language prevents gaining a full understanding of the school’s processes. Communication and feedback to parents regarding student learning and the important role they play continues to be a challenge and the school aims to empower parents so that they are able to support their children with learning. Intent, rationale and focus Coolaroo South Primary School aims to provide learning opportunities for parents and children from preschool to Year 6. We do this by promoting a collaborative approach with our community and being curious about better ways for students to achieve. The school has a child centred approach to student learning and over the course of the strategic plan aims to create the conditions, employ the practices and develop the behaviours, attitudes and learning environments that are conducive to student voice, agency and leadership. The school will facilitate rich conversations, collaborate and take the actions to empower students. Social and Emotional (SEL) programs implemented aim to build resilience enabling students to bounce back from the challenges they experience and not only deal with current difficulties that are a part of everyday life, but also to develop the basic skills and habits that will help them deal with challenges later in life, during adolescence and adulthood. Coolaroo South Primary School responds to the needs of the community and works hard to build postive, trusted relationships. As a community we value the strength of home-school partnerships already established and see the benefit in building our community's capacity to support students in their learning..
