San Francisco Arts Education Project Schedule of Events September 2022-November 2023 October 1 – October 29, 2022 (Exhibition + Weekend Workshops, Minnesota Street Project) Alexis Arnold: Grid Operator Working with materials such as paper-pulp, acrylic, and metal, SFArtsED Artist Mentor Alexis Arnold employs sculptural techniques in which unique patterns and forms emerge after being filtered through screens. Families are invited to explore paper-pulp making—and other sculptural processes—during weekly Saturday workshops. October 15, 2022 (Minnesota Street Project) Third Saturday Workshop Free paper-making workshop with Alexis Arnold for family members of all ages. 2-4pm November 5 – December 3, 2022 (Exhibition + Weekend Workshops, Minnesota Street Project) Renée Gertler: Scintilla Glimmer Oakland-based sculptor and SFArtsED Artist Mentor Renée Gertler explores memories, logic, and intuition with a solo exhibition of new drawings and sculptural objects crafted using papier-mâche, minerals, crystals, beadwork, and knotting techniques learned from her mother. November 19, 2022 (Minnesota Street Project) Third Saturday Workshop Renée Gertler will lead a free drawing workshop and dancer Patricia West will respond to the sculptural works on view in the gallery and adjacent atrium hallway. December 10 – January 28, 2023 (Exhibition, Minnesota Street Project) Living Things: Thematic Group Exhibition & Silent Online Auction In this very special group show, esteemed artists (many part of the SFArtsED community) present original works alongside meaningful objects that have helped to inspire their creative pursuits. Proceeds will benefit both SFArtsED and the individual artists, and the public will have an opportunity to bid on artwork in a silent auction from Dec. 10-17. December 14, 2022 (Minnesota Street Project) Art Is for Life! Opening party and silent auction celebrating the artists and art of Living Things, with live musical performances by members of the SFArtsED Players and alumni.
February 4 – March 25 (Exhibition, Minnesota Street Project) Dialogues 2023 Annual exhibition featuring the work of SFArtsED Artists-in-Residence hanging beside the work of their elementary and middle-school students, with free hands-on workshops open to the public. March 15 (Dance Performance, Minnesota Street Project) SFArtsED Dance Mentors in Performance In conjunction with Dialogues, SFArtsED’s dance Artist Mentors perform in a showcase evening in the Atrium. April 1 – April 29, 2023 (Exhibition, Minnesota Street Project) Collaboration with S.F. Unified School District’s Arts Department Two-week exhibition of visual art by students from San Francisco’s public schools. Opening-day reception will feature dance, music, spoken word, and DJ performances throughout the building. April 15, 2023 (Event, Minnesota Street Project) Family Day: Minnesota Street Project and S.F. Unified School District A free, all-day public event featuring young student artists from San Francisco’s public schools as they activate the Minnesota Street building with performances, music, spoken word, and visual arts showcases—as well as work and free workshops offered by SFArtsED Artists-in-Residence. April 21 – 23, 2023 (Performance, Presidio Theatre) SFArtsED Players in Performance at the Presidio Theatre For their 22nd season, the SFArtsED Players present five performances of a popular, family-oriented musical at the beautifully renovated Presidio Theatre. (Past shows have included Annie, Matilda the Musical, Seussical, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.) May 6 – 27 (Performance, location to be announced) New Works Workshop Young performers and Artist Mentors collaborate on the creation of a dance/theater/musical theater piece for three Saturdays, culminating in a public performance.
May 1, 2023 – June 30, 2023 (Artist Residency, Minnesota Street Project) Artist in Residence: Agelio Batle SFArtsED invites longtime Master Artist-in-Residence Agelio Batle to use the gallery as both studio and exhibition space, with several community engagement events (such as a makers’ workshop and artist-talk) open to the public. Made possible, in part, by a grant from the NEA. June 24, 2023 (Event, Minnesota Street Project) Family Day: Minnesota Street Project and the Museum of Craft and Design. Artists from SFArtsED and the Museum of Craft and Design collaborate on site-specific art projects, activating locations in and around Minnesota Street Project, the nearby Museum, and spaces in between. June 28, 2023 (Event, Feinstein’s at the Nikko) Producers Circle Cabaret In Feinstein’s, the city’s premier cabaret, SFArtsED alumni present a concert in support of the Producers Circle—a fundraiser for the SFArtsED’s Players musical theater troupe and Broadway Bound, a summer musical theater program. July 29, 2023 (Performance, Presidio Theatre) Summer Musical in collaboration with the SF Bay Area Theatre Company A fully realized concert production of a beloved musical featuring SFArtsED alumni (including several theater professionals) and members of BATCO performing alongside campers from SFArtsED’s Broadway Bound summer program. August 5 – Sept 26, 2023 (Exhibition, Minnesota Street Project) Summerscape 2023 Original exhibition featuring a curated selection of work created by young artists in SFArtsED Summer’s visual arts, theater design, and fashion design programs. October 7 - November 18, 2023 (Exhibition, Minnesota Street Project) Ramon Abad: "Mabuhay, Friend!" With support from the S.F. Arts Commission, SFArtsED Artist Mentor Ramon Abad will create a site-specific installation—creating series of puppets available for visitor interaction and leading a hands-on puppetry workshop.
