The case of Green Dot (Cyprus) Public Co Ltd February 2013 www.greendot.com.cy 1 Alone Impossible, Together it’s Possible
Realities prior to harmonization No regulations for sorting and recycling packaging waste No such systems in place or primitive systems not well organized No culture to sort waste The infrastructure in place was in most of the cases inadequate Very different organization of the public sector and the local authorities Waste was mainly government’s or local government’s job www.greendot.com.cy 2 Alone Impossible, Together it’s Possible
Challenges To change the habits and the culture of a “throw it all” society To quickly reorganize the public sector, the local authorities and the industry to establish the relevant responsibilities and eventually develop operational and effective systems To develop the local sorting and recycling infrastructure To develop proper local energy recovery infrastructure To face eventually saturated recycling markets internationally To make all of the above at a socially acceptable cost www.greendot.com.cy 3 Alone Impossible, Together it’s Possible
