From the Pastor Desk SRL (2nd Sunday of Easter A) DIVINE MERCY We celebrate the 2nd SUNDAY [OCTAVE] OF EASTER; DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY – The FESTIVAL OF MERCY. We shall have our usual Divine Mercy Devotion (Holy Hour and singing of the Divine Mercy Chaplet). We still have some fears over COVID but the Risen Lord comes to reassure us with His mercy. Today’s Gospel Passage (John 20:19-31) shows the Apostles also entertained some fears and anxieties; they were under lockdown for fear of the Jews. Also, scared about how the Risen Lord might react to them since they had deserted Him at the time of His Passion and Cross. Christ appeared to them and reassured them: “Peace be with you!” (John 20:19f). Amazingly, He not only forgave but also granted them the power to forgive sins (cf. John 20:23), thereby instituting the Sacrament of Mercy and Reconciliation in His Church (cf. 2Cor 5:17-19). What a foundation of Divine Mercy Sunday! Scripture celebrates God as God of Mercy: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1Pet 1:3-5). Hence, led by the Holy Spirit, St. Pope John Paul II, instituted Mercy Sunday on the Octave of Easter, in the Year 2000, on the occasion of the canonization of a Polish nun, Faustina Kowalska (who received revelations and messages of divine mercy from the Lord Jesus in 1937). Here are some words of our Lord to her, as recorded in her diary: “This Feast emerged from the very depths of My mercy, and it is confirmed in the vast depths of my tender mercies. Every soul believing and trusting in My mercy will obtain it” (Diary 420); “I demand from you deeds of mercy which are to arise out of love for me. You are to show mercy to your neighbors always and everywhere. You must not shrink from this or try to excuse yourself from it” (Diary 742); “I want to grant a complete pardon to the souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of My mercy” (Diary 1109); “Souls that make an appeal to My mercy delight Me. To such souls I grant even more than they ask. I cannot punish even the greatest sinner if he makes an appeal to My compassion” (Diary 1146). BIBLE VERSE OF THE WEEK: “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained” (John 20:23). OUR CATHOLIC APPEAL 2021: We are grateful to all those who have made their pledges. It is a testament to your faith in the Lord Jesus. Please, those who have not yet made their pledges, kindly fill out an Appeal envelope, donate by check or online through our website. We need each family to participate generously. Nothing is more
important in this present life than to support the Mission of Christ’s Church for the salvation of souls (cf. Matt 16:26). May God replenish you and grant you good health in mind and body, through Christ our Lord. Amen. NEW EVANGELIZATION: Finally, in the spirit of the New Evangelization, please, participate regularly at Weekend Masses and some Daily Masses, Holy Hours, Divine Mercy Devotion, Stations of the Cross and Visits to the Eucharistic Lord. Also, evangelize by inviting family, friends and neighbors. Tell them, “Come and see!” (John 1:39, 46). DATE TO REMEMBER: CONFIRMATION: Our Bishop, His Excellency, Most Reverend John Noonan will visit our parish to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 10:00AM. Del Pastor SRL (2do Domingo de Pascua A) MISERICORDIA DIVINA Celebramos el 2º DOMINGO [OCTAVA] DE PASCUA; DOMINGO DE LA DIVINA MISERICORDIA – LA FIESTA DE LA MISERICORDIA. Tendremos nuestra habitual Devoción a la Divina Misericordia (Hora Santa y canto de la Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia). Todavía tenemos algunos temores sobre COVID pero el Señor Resucitado viene a tranquilizarnos con Su misericordia. El Pasaje del Evangelio de hoy (Juan 20:19-31) muestra que los apóstoles también tenian algunos temores y ansiedades; estaban encerrados por miedo a los judíos. Además, asustado por cómo el Señor Resucitado podría reaccionar ante ellos, ya que lo habían abandonado en el momento de Su Pasión y Cruz. Cristo se les apareció y les aseguró: “La paz esté con ustedes” (Juan 20:19). Sorprendentemente, no solo les perdonó, sino que también les otorgó el poder de perdonar los pecados (cf. Juan 20:23), instituyendo así el Sacramento de la Misericordia y la Reconciliación en Su Iglesia (cf. 2Cor 5:17-19). ¡Qué fundamento del Domingo de la Divina Misericordia! La Escritura celebra a Dios como Dios de misericordia: “Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, que en su gran misericordia nos dio un nuevo nacimiento a una esperanza viva mediante la resurrección de Jesucristo de entre los muertos” (1Ped 1:3-5). Así, guiado por el Espíritu Santo, el 55Papa Juan Pablo II instituyó el Domingo de la Misericordia en la Octava de Pascua, en el año 2000, con motivo de la canonización de una monja polaca, Faustina Kowalska (que recibió
revelaciones y mensajes de la divina misericordia del Señor Jesús en 1937). He aquí algunas palabras de nuestro Señor para ella, registradas en su diario: “Esta Fiesta surgió de lo más profundo de Mi misericordia, y se confirma en lo más profundo de mis tiernas misericordias. Toda alma que crea y confíe en Mi misericordia la obtendrá” (Diario 420); “Te exijo obras de misericordia que surjan del amor por mí. Debes mostrar misericordia a tu projimo siempre y en todas partes. No debes dejar de hacerlo ni intentar excusarte” (Diario 742); “Quiero conceder un perdón completo a las almas que se confesarán y recibirán la Sagrada Comunión en la fiesta de Mi misericordia” (Diario 1109); “Me deleitan las almas que invocan Mi misericordia. A esas almas les concedo incluso más de lo que piden. No puedo castigar ni al pecador más grande si apela a Mi compasión” (Diario 1146). VERSO BÍBLICO DE LA SEMANA: “Si perdonas los pecados de alguno, le quedan perdonados; si retenéis los pecados de alguno, quedan retenidos” (Juan 20:23). NUESTRO LLAMADO CATÓLICO 2021: Agradecemos a todos aquellos que han hecho sus promesas. Es un testimonio de su fe en el Señor Jesús. Por favor, aquellos que aún no han hecho sus promesas, por favor llenen un sobre de el llamado catolico, hagan una donación con cheque o en línea a través de nuestro sitio web.
