KELSON TIMES From The Principal 24th March 2021 Kia ora e te whānau As I am writing this newsletter we have our Year 6 students off at Makahika Camp for four days and three nights. They all left on Tuesday morning looking very excited and clean! I am sure we will still see happy, perhaps a bit dirtier faces on Friday when they return full of amazing stories about their experiences. The rest of the school students have also been involved in some great trips and activities so far this week. Thank you to everyone who is helping out on trips and activities throughout the week. A huge thank you must also go to the teachers who have planned and organised the great week for all of the children throughout the school. Please don’t hesitate to pop in for a chat or email me if you have any queries or feedback. Ngā mihi nui Jude Pemberton Principal Kelson School principal@kelson.school.nz

The turnout was tremendous, the weather was stunning and the children had an absolute ball. The Gala Committee need to feel very proud of their outstanding achievements with this event. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time on the day to help support this community event. The Gala is just another example of how well our school community works together to plan and run amazing events that not only raise money for our children, but provide our children with opportunities and experiences they will remember for a life time. Thank you once again to our amazing Gala Committee who have worked tirelessly throughout the term.
A Note From The Gala Committee What a night! We had a lot of fun and loved seeing Bronze Sponsors: months of hard work pay off with smiling faces of people Kelson Community Association, Ray White - Anna Nankivell, having a great time at the gala. We’re still counting Wabi Sabi Wellbeing, Becca Florist, Staglands, everything that came in and awaiting some money from Sarah Whiteman - Waste Management, Marcel Geor, Hutt City Honda, Speight's Ale House, The Victoria Tavern, Bunning's some vendors, but we can confidently say that the gala Petone, Danielle Footitt, Crystal Nails & Beauty, Karel Dulver, fundraiser made around $20k this year. We are amazed! Mexicano, Watties, Ellen Tavenier, Marg Thompson, This is 100% due to the involvement of so many in Mr. Whippy, The Coffee Guy making it such an awesome event. Thank you to everyone who attended the gala, baked something for the bake sale, dropped things off for the garage sale, all the students who created things to sell, the senior kids who helped us set up, and all the Gold Sponsors: awesome people who put a hand up to volunteer on the Lawns and Stuff, Hutt City Builders Limited, M.A.T Plumbing, day. Board Of Trustees Update It was great to see everyone out supporting the Gala - from sponsors donating money/items/time, to helping out on the night. Big thanks to the Gala Committee and to have the support from local MP's Ginny Andersen and Chris Bishop was fantastic. The BOT helped out on the BBQ for an hour and it was great to see so many people. We had hoped to chat with people at the time, asking for suggestions/feedback/areas you would like us to focus on, but the hour just flew by with the long line of hungry people! If anyone would like to email at any point, feel free to do so, it would be great to hear from you, or have a chat with any of us at school when you see us. School galas are full of fun but thanks to the efforts of Satish Shinde, Mr Skinnon and a group of Kelson kids, our bins post gala were not full of rubbish! Satish set up recycling stations all around the school, manned by Kelson School kids. The kids diverted as much rubbish as possible from the landfill to recycling. Satish and Mr Skinnon were busy the day after the gala sorting through the bags and running recycling down to the recycling station. Another example of Kelson School’s commitment to the environment and the EnviroSchools programme.
