Friday 11th September 2020 Week 2 Headteacher Message It is hugely disappointing that we had to send Year 8 children home to self-isolate for 14 days on Monday, so soon after re-opening, following confirmation of a positive COVID-19 case in the Year 8 learning bubble. However, we will always follow Public Health England’s advice to keep our school community safe. We hope that this is an isolated incident. We are confident that all procedures have been followed in accordance with all our pre-planning and risk assessments and carried out in accordance with Public Health England guidelines. Pupils have been kept in learning bubbles so it is business as usual for all other year groups and the school will also continue to provide high-quality home learning for those children who are self-isolating. Uniform Parents can assist the school by walking through our uniform expectations with your child. Our uniform policy can be found on the school website. Full uniform, including plain black shoes and a school bag containing equipment, is required prior to entry into the school. Alternatives to the published uniform are not permitted. Piercings, false tan, acrylic nails, false eyelashes, baseball caps and nail polish are not permitted. No extreme hairstyles are permitted. These include tram lines and hair cut shorter than a number 2. Long hair must be tied back in a ponytail. Lunches / Health and Safety / Adults coming to school site We ask that parents send pupils to school each day with a healthy packed lunch and break snack. Pupils in receipt of free school meals will have lunch provided for them. Parents must not deliver takeaway food or have takeaway food delivered to school for children. If adults attend school premises to hand things through our gates, this presents a safeguarding risk to our pupils. We will look at ways in which we can re-establish our food service for pupils. However, until this is communicated, we appreciate your support in ensuring your child attends school with a packed lunch each day. As a COVID-19 health and safety precaution, until further notice we are unable to accept any items brought to school reception unless it is urgent medication. Parents / carers should not come to school without a prior appointment. If equipment is forgotten, please ring school and we will always try to assist. Buses If children come to school on service buses we ask that they wear a mask whilst travelling. We have worked very hard in school to ensure that year groups are separated into teaching bubbles to best prevent the spread of COVID-19. This work is potentially undone if pupils have direct contact while not wearing a mask with people outside of their family / learning bubble. What to do if…. At the end of this newsletter we have attached ‘What to do if..’ guidance in relation to COVID-19. We hope this is of use and as ever, if there are any queries, please contact your child’s Head of Year so we can assist.
Changes to Entrances Pupils will continue to have separate entrances for entering and exiting the building. We have reviewed our practice and have made some amendments. Please see below the new entrance points for year 7, 8 and 9. Year 7 Year 8 Year 9 Year 10 Year 11 Main Gate A Main Gate B Sports Door PE Gate PE Gate Pupils will continue to report straight to their form room on arrival and will not congregate in open areas. Pupils must ensure that they arrive on time for school at 8:40 am each day. If pupils arrive late, the new late pupil entrance is situated at the sports centre. Welcome to Mrs Cleaver “ Hello everyone. I’m Mrs Cleaver, the new PA to Mr Haseldine, the Executive Headteacher of both DTW and DTRB. It goes without saying that I am really excited to be here and I look forward to meeting you all over the coming ” days and weeks. Late to School and Early Collection Point Pupils who arrive after 8:45am in the morning will be marked as late. If your child is late for school they must use the late entrance point.
