February 2021 Sensory Garden, Chertsey Recreation Ground, Guildford Road, Chertsey KT16 9BW There is car parking next to the sensory garden and many seating areas where you can sit amongst the aromatic plants. March 2021 The Orchard Dementia Centre, Staines Lane, Chertsey, KT16 8PS The Orchard Dementia Centre provides a variety of activities which includes: arts and crafts, shopping, baking, gardening, reminiscence, walking, seated dancing and music The communal gardens are ideal for calm and relaxing walks. The centre also arranges weekly visits to the local church for coffee and cakes, where the clients meet others in the local community. April 2021 Frances Dyble Goode and Members of Carers Support at Kew Runnymede Dementia Carers Support is a unique Charity. We support both Carer & Loved one to have a Social life together from the time of Diagnosis of any form of Dementia. There is our Clubs to visit 3 times a week, River Boat Trips, Saturday Lunch Club's Saturday Breakfast Club, Cream Tea's, Weekends Away and many more activities. We are totally Free to all who attend, run by volunteers who are ex carers. May 2021 Victory Park, Addlestone, Chertsey Road Addlestone Surrey KT15 2EA The gates into Victory Park are a memorial sculpture to the 1914 – 1919 First World War. The left hand pillar has sculpted lions and guns, and on the right hand pillar there is a nautical image. The names of the fallen are listed on the stone pillars. The metal gates and stone pillars were sculpted by J Whitehead and Sons. There are toilets in Victory Park and the nearest café with toilets is in the Tesco’s Superstore in Station Road, Addlestone. June 2021 Hythe Park. Field View, Egham TW20 8AT The Community Garden in Hythe Park is also a sensory garden. There are no toilet facilities or refreshments in Hythe Park. Other disabled toilets are located at Sainsbury’s and Homebase in The Causeway, TW18 3AP, a 5 minute drive away or a 25 minute walk. There is a car park and benches are regularly spaced around the park for rest stops. July 2021 Remains of Chertsey Abbey, Staines Lane Chertsey Surrey; Postcode: KT16 8AT These low walls are all that remains of the out-buildings. Dormitories, kitchens the dining hall and the storerooms of Chertsey Abbey. King Henry VIII ordered the dissolution of the monasteries in England in between 1536 and 1540. There are seats around Abbeyfields and a self-guided leaflet downloadable from the carers page on the Runnymede Council website. August 2021 The Obelisk, Wick Lane, Virginia Water, TW20 0UJ A flat and well maintained path circles most of the lake at Virginia Water, passing by key points of interest such as the Leptis Magna Ruins and the Totem Pole. This makes the landscape easily accessible. The Virginia Water car park is on the London Road, Virginia Water, GU25 4QF. There are refreshments at The Obelisk and in the Savill building, which also has disabled toilets. Car parking is also provided at the Savill Garden Building TW20 0UJ. September 2021 King John Statue and Mosaic in Egham Town Photographs by Alan Bostock There are many sculptures, and mosaics on the walls and in the pavement in Egham Town for more information on these please see the Runnymede Sculpture Trail leaflet on the Runnymede Borough Council website or in your nearest library. A new café in Egham is The Atrium Café in St John’s Church on Manor Farm Lane, which is open on Wednesdays from 11:00am to 1:30pm. There is car parking outside the church and disabled toilet facilities. October 2021 Gogmore Farm Park, 65 Riversdell Close, Chertsey KT16 9JW There are some beautiful trees in Gogmore Farm Park such as the avenue of Zelcova trees and the Siebold Maples pictured left to right above. There is a wheelchair tree trail around the park downloadable from the Runnymede Access Liaison Group website https://ralg.org.uk/ There is disabled car parking and the Bourne Café with a covered seating area is next to the car park. The Bourne Café is open from Monday to Saturday 9am – 5pm and Sunday 11am – 5pm. November 2021 Sculpture of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second in the Runnymede Pleasure Grounds Windsor Road, Englefield Green, Egham, Surrey,TW20 0AE The statue of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Second was created for the 800 year anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta at Runnymede, and designed by sculptor James Butler MBE. Runnymede Pleasure Grounds is open all year. There are disabled parking bays and disabled toilets accessed via a RADAR key. If you need to purchase a RADAR key these are available from Runnymede Borough Council at a cost of around £4.50. There are also adjacent café facilities. December 2021 Chertsey Museum, The Cedars, 33 Windsor St, Chertsey KT16 8AT Chertsey Museum is FREE to visit and is closed on a Monday, but open Tuesday to Friday 12.30pm – 4.30pm, Saturday 11am – 4pm, Sunday closed. There is a disabled parking bay in front of the museum and a disabled toilet inside the building. Chertsey Museum offers a reminiscence service for organisations caring for the elderly of the local area. A series of 12 reminiscence boxes have been compiled containing original and replica artefacts, sounds and even smells to help trigger conversations and the flow of memories between elders and staff. Themes covered by the boxes include: Travel, Going Out School days, Toys and Games. The museum also have local history reminiscence photo packs that can be borrowed. There are other places to go with people with dementia and services to help Revive Coffee Shop, 99 Guildford Street, Chertsey, Surrey, KT16 9AG The Revive Coffee Shop in Chertsey has a number of craft groups and a health and wellbeing group. Hebrews Café, Addlestone is a pay as you feel café, which provides free drinks for carers who visit with the person they support. Hebrews Café is part of St Paul’s Church, Church Road Addlestone and is normally open 9am to 1.30pm Tuesday to Friday during School term time. Addlestone Community Centre Café. Garfield Road, Addlestone, KT15 2NU is open Monday to Friday 12noon to 2pm. Addlestone Centre also provides activities such as Keep Fit, Bridge etc. For more information telephone 01932843646. Runnymede Borough Council also provides services to support carers: Meals at Home This service is perfect for those who find cooking for themselves difficult or a chore. The meals service is tailored to you, allowing choice on the food you like, delivered hot and ready to eat on the days you want them. They are nutritionally balanced with specialist dietary options available to suit all. View the food menus online or request one by post. Community transport Want to get out and about? Allow the fleet of fully accessible buses and on-hand friendly staff get you to where you need to go. With easy booking and competitively priced fares, call for a quote on your first ride. Caring for someone? You can ride free when accompanying the individual in your care. GPS location service Peace of mind for people who may feel vulnerable outside their home. The GPS is a discreet device with two-way conversation at a touch of a button. When activated it links directly to the 24 hour control centre. Other smart features such as low battery alerts and safe zones can also be applied. This is available to all residents across Surrey. Community alarms and telecare This service allows reassurance at a touch of a button, keeping you safe in your home. The alarm links to the 24/7 control room operated by our friendly and professional team who are able to assist you in an emergency.
