YOUR TOUR IN DETAIL…
DAY 1: Pretoria to South Africa/Zimbabwe border
Recommended to arrive by 08h00 for an introduction to the beautifully appointed station and to enjoy
refreshments with a briefing before you board the train. Settle into your suite and enjoy the ambience of
the train recapturing the Golden Age of Travel. The train departs at 09h30 from the Rovos Rail Station in
Pretoria with a steam locomotive before switching over to diesel or electric locomotives (use of steam has
become increasingly difficult over the years as more and more water, and coaling facilities have been
scrapped). Lunch is served in the dining cars as the train travels north through Bela-Bela (meaning the pot
that boils) and Modimolle (previously Nylstroom), christened by the Voortrekkers as the source of the Nile
River as the town’s river happened to be north flowing. The train then passes the edge of the escarpment
and crosses the Tropic of Capricorn en-route to the South Africa/Zimbabwe border at Beitbridge.

DAY 2: En-route to Victoria Falls
After formalities been finalised at Beitbridge (customs clearance will be done by your host – you don't
need to leave the train), continue through beautiful landscape to Bulawayo, the second-largest city in
Zimbabwe. The overnight stop is at Mpopoma Train Yard, situated outside Bulawayo.
Overnight on board the Rovos Rail (Pullman Suite) with lunch, dinner, breakfast & a selection of drinks
included.
DAY 3: En-route to Victoria Falls
Breakfast is served as the train departs Mpopoma. Enjoy lunch while travelling along the eastern edge of
Hwange Park along one of Africa's most extended stretches of straight railway lines – 114 kilometres.
Arrive at Kennedy Siding (which is a railroad siding) from where you will continue for a game drive at The
Hide, a private concession in Hwange National Park in search of predators and prey alike. Continue to
Thompsons Junction for the overnight stop.

DAY 4: En-route to Victoria Falls
After breakfast continues from Thompsons Junction to the Victoria Falls Station where your journey ends
around 10h00. Afternoon guided tour of the Victoria Falls - a truly awe-inspiring experience. Be
accompanied through the rainforest by a qualified guide who will give you a brief history of the Falls as
well as be detailing the flora, fauna, bird & wildlife and other points of interest. Return to the lodge.
Overnight at The Victoria Falls Hotel (Standard room) with breakfast included.
DAY 5: Victoria Falls
Enjoy breakfast with a morning at leisure. Transfer to Victoria Falls Airport for your onward flight home,
departing at 13h55 arriving 15h35.

of the most varied scenery imaginable unfolds beyond the windows. With discreet and friendly service,
five-star cuisine and a selection of South Africa’s finest wines, Rovos Rail harks back to a simpler, more
elegant era encompassing the timeless grace and high romance of African exploration. The epitome of
luxury with attractive wood-paneling and period Edwardian features, the air-conditioned suites
accommodate two people with the option of twin or double beds. Elegant and generous in size, the Royal
Suites take up half a carriage measuring ±16 sq metres. Each has its private lounge area and full bathroom
with Victorian bath and separate shower. The Deluxe Suites (±10 sq metres) also accommodate two
passengers and have a lounge area and en-suite bathroom with shower. The Pullman Suites (±7 sq metres)
are equipped with a comfortable sofa-seat during the day with a conversion to double or twin beds for the
evening and also have an en-suite bathroom with shower.

DRESS CODE: For days on the train dress is smart casual. Evening attire is more formal: for the gentlemen,
a jacket and tie are a minimum requirement while for ladies we suggest cocktail/evening dresses or suits.
