Maynooth University Centre Profile 2014 Junior Summer Camp Age profile: 11- 17 yrs Location Maynooth is situated 24km west of Dublin, just 40 minutes from Dublin airport. All the attractions of the capital are within easy reach and the town is serviced by frequent bus and rail connections. There is much to see and enjoy in the vicinity of Maynooth, including Castletown House and Celbridge Abbey. Maynooth University dates back to 1795. The campus is extensive and caters for over 8,400 students during the academic year. The unique blend of modern facilities on a mature campus is the perfect setting for an international language school. www.atcireland.ie
Accommodation Accommodation is provided in modern apartments on campus. Each apartment comprises of a fully fitted kitchen, dining area and comfortably furnished lounge. Accommodation is in single and twin rooms in apartments of 5 bedrooms with en-suite facilities. Host family option is available for combined groups only. Lessons Each lesson is 45 minutes in duration and the standard programme for junior students is 15 hours per week. Classes are available at all levels from Elementary (A1) to Advanced (C1). Classes for junior students will have a maximum of 15 students, but you can expect an average of 13 students per class. Class times are divided so that students receive lessons from more than one teacher, two per day allowing them the benefit of more than one voice and teaching style and having a team of teachers liaise on their learning paths. There are 20 comfortable modern, spacious classrooms available in the college. www.atcireland.ie
Student Welfare The welfare of our students is of paramount importance to us and we offer a high standard of care and supervision to all our students. We provide nominated ATC staff members to act as guardians to our individual students that travel without group leaders. It is very important for us that our students remain happy and healthy throughout their stay. Our management at Maynooth University, along with our teachers and activity leaders will ensure that all students receive the best possible care and attention so as to maximize their experience during their study holiday. Activities & Excursions Maynooth University offers a very comprehensive cultural, sports and evening programme. Included are two half day cultural excursions to local galleries, museums and other visitor attractions by private coach. Three Dublin city transfers by coach per week (per 2 week stay) and one full day excursion per week to cities and places of cultural importance around Ireland by private coach. One dinner in Hard Rock Café or similar is also included in the package. The activity programme provides young students with an opportunity to absorb some of Ireland’s rich heritage in a fun and relaxed way. A residential evening activity programme rounds off each day and includes: discos, Irish nights (Ceili), karaoke, talent nights and treasure hunts will ensure that each student is busy from breakfast to bedtime. Campus Living Cleaning Bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living rooms will be cleaned weekly. Bins and rubbish removed by the cleaning staff daily. During occupancy, towels and bed linen will be replaced once per week. Rooms will be fully serviced between occupancies. Damages There is a damage deposit of €50 for individual student’s and €250 for groups that will be collected upon arrival. This will be retained for the duration of the student/group’s stay. The deposit will be returned in full prior to departure less the cost of any damages caused by the student/group Deliveries Mail and other deliveries for students will be passed on to the Centre Manager for subsequent distribution. Any breach of fire safety regulations may result in a fine and expulsion from the course. Keys Electronic key cards will be provided to each student. Lost key cards can be replaced by Maynooth University staff at a cost of €5 each. www.atcireland.ie
Laundry There is a private self service launderette available for the students use at Maynooth University. The machines take coins, and washing powder can be purchased locally or students may bring their own. A typical wash and dry costs approximately €4. Safe A safe is available for the security of the students belongings at Maynooth University. Students are encouraged to store large sums of money or valuables here. Travel tickets and passports are normally kept in the safe for the duration of the students stay. Security There are 24 hour security guards monitoring the facility, dealing with security and related matters and responding to fire alarm activations. In order to cooperate with college staff, when asked students will be required to identify themselves and respond to legitimate directions relating to safety, security and good order. An ATC Language and Travel staff member will assist Maynooth University security in the event of noise disturbances, incidents involving language school participants or medical emergencies. Student Identity Card In order to co-operate with the security and safety standards at Maynooth University, ATC Language and Travel will supply all students with a student identity card. English & Soccer / Drama Programme English & Soccer Programme Details The Soccer programme is conducted by UEFA qualified coaches. As well as participating in language classes five days a week, students can then enjoy either three mornings or afternoons of soccer training and matches. Each training session is three hours in length. Students on the English & Soccer programme will have 1 Dublin City transfer during a two week stay. English & Drama Programme Details The Drama programme is run in association with the Gaiety School of Acting Dublin. As well as participating in language classes five days a week, students can then enjoy either three mornings or afternoons of Drama Classes each class is three hours in length.
