Centennial Celebration Mission Statement “To raise awareness of ROA while celebrating 100 years of success representing the Uniformed Services’ Reserve Components." 1922-2022 5
Plan Elements: Key Messages • We support the overarching National Defense Strategy • ROA is unique because it is the only Military Service Organization (MSO) with the sole mission to support the Reserve Components (RC), all Services, all Ranks • ROA provides non-partisan support of RC Legislation • We bolster public awareness and support of the Reserve Components, USPHS and NOAA Corps • We educate policy makers and the public about the Reserve Components 6

LOE 1: Develop a Centennial Logo What: First effort, develop a Centennial Logo. Comments: • Will be used on all marketing material to include signs, brochures, stationery, mementos, etc. • Will be professionally developed by an existing contractor. Suspense: 6/1/2021 Cost: No cost 9
LOE 2: Create National Citizen-Warrior Day What: National Citizen-Warrior Day recommended October 2nd, providing an annual day of recognition for the Reserve Components Comments: • Requires Congressional approval • Possible names for day: National Citizen-Warrior Day; National Uniformed Services Reserve Component Day; National Twice a Citizen Day; suggestions are welcome! LOE 3: ROA Historical Display What: ROA historical display in the ROA building throughout the Centennial Year. Should include a copy of our Charter, Truman signing pen, ROA Story, etc. Comments: • New lighted, wheeled, and locking showcase will be required along with mounting for individual items. LOE 4: ROA First Day Issue What: If practical, use the Centennial Logo to create a First Day Issue for October 2, 2022 Comments: • Recommended by the Committee only if there is no cost involved. Suspense: 9/1/2021 Cost: self-funded 13
LOE 5: ROA Centennial Memento What: Desk Mini-Minuteman, and Centennial Coin for gifting and for purchase by Departments, Chapters, and members Comments: • Mini Minuteman on wood base: o $32/each for 50 or less; o $30/each to purchase 100+; o Includes engraving cost for “ROA Centennial 1922-2022” plate at base of desk-block, below nameplate. • Coin: o Estimate based on size of 1.75”, color both sides; o Mold fee of $125 eliminated if quantity ordered is 300+. LOE 7: ROA Feature Stories What: Feature an ROA Member of the Week throughout 2022. Highlight their role in ROA and their Reserve Component and/or civilian career. Comments: • Will need 52 volunteer members. • Highlight on social media and website. • Solicit nominations from PNPs, Departments, Chapters, Committees, and members • Selections to be concluded in 2021 for 2022 posting Suspense: 10/1/2021 Cost: No cost 16
LOE 8: ROA Centennial Writing Contest What: Supplemental to the ROA Member of the Week, hold a Writing Contest named for Alex A.C. Gerry, ROA’s most prolific national security and international affairs writer in its history. Comments: • Publicize in ROA social media and ReserveVoice, with judging by the Communications Committee. Suspense: 10/1/2021 Cost: No cost 17
LOE 9: Veterans History Project What: Library of Congress’s “Veterans History Project” (VHP); get members engaged Comments: • Distribute the VHP Field Kits during our March Leadership Meetings and National Conventions to expand ROA member’s postings, leading to an ROA tab for greater visibility. • Repurpose ROA’s VHP training videos. Suspense: 10/1/2021 Cost: No cost 18
LOE 10: Publication - Legislative Successes What: Highlight legislative success stories that have benefitted the members and their Reserve Component over the past century. Comments: • Establish posting dates in 2021 for release in 2022; • Full Chronological List and Priority List of legislation should be created for handouts; • Create list for respective Chiefs of Reserve and National Guard; • Contractor used only to add to website and social media, which is included in an existing contract. LOE 11: Minuteman Building What: Use Minuteman Memorial Building (especially the lobby) to promote ROA’s legislative success stories and our Century of Advocating for the Reserve Components. Comments: • One or two pop-up displays inside the lobby. • Centennial banner(s) on the outside of the building (West and North side). Suspense: 12/1/2021 Cost: $3,400 • $400 (for two popups and graphics) • $3,000 (for large exterior banner & installation) 20
LOE 12: International Acknowledgement What: Plan acknowledgement during International Congresses in 2022 of ROA’s Centennial with leadership of CIOR, CIOMR and UPORFA Comments: • The UPORFA Chief of U.S. Delegation has indicated he may be able to implement in Lima, 2022. • Recommend the US Delegations for CIOR and CIOMR pursue this with current German CIOR Presidency and the Belgian CIOMR Presidency for 2022 Congress. LOE 13: ReserveVoice – Anniversary Edition What: Recommend special “Centennial” insert for the 2022 Reserve/Voice Magazine Comments: • Submissions may be needed from Departments, Chapters, and Committees. • Cost includes 8 additional pages and special, • Centennial cover/content. Suspense: 2/1/2022 Cost: $5,000 22
LOE 14: STARs Foundation Reception What: Hold a STARs Foundation Reception or Gala Comments: • Consider Willard Hotel or Army Navy Club’s Pershing Room • VP’s and Executive Committeemen will engage their respective Service leaders. • Personal appearance or video message by Truman and/or Reilly relatives (cost in video contract). • Seek sponsor(s) with infomercial • Estimated cost from last Gala $275,000 to be added to the STARs Foundation budget (cost based on 2013 event). LOE 15: Potential Promotions w/USAA What: Seek joint marketing opportunities with USAA They are also celebrating their centennial (June 20th) in 2022. Comments: • Advertisements and/or Public Service Announcements w/ROA Suspense: 4/1/2022 Cost: No Cost 24
LOE 16: State/Federal Proclamations What: Develop Proclamations, one for Congress and one for the White House, honoring the Congressionally Chartered Reserve Organization of America’s Centennial. Comments: • Proclamation whereas clauses to be adaptable for Departments and Chapters to pursue a Proclamation with their State and local Governments for appropriate recognition. LOE 17: Replace the Blair House Plaque What: Replace the ROA plaque at the Blair House and place it at its original entrance position. Comments: • Record the event in partnership with the Blair House and consider inviting current Army Surgeon General – the first Surgeon General, Dr. Lovell, was original owner of this residence. Suspense: 5/1/2022 Cost: $2,000 26
LOE 18: Wreath Laying Ceremony What: Hold a wreath-laying at the Pershing Statue in Pershing Park on October 1st or 2nd, 2022, to commemorate the memory of our founder, General of the Armies John J. Pershing Comments: • Obtain permission from the National Park Service/National Mall and Memorial Parks [NAMA]). • Given the reconstruction on the site, soon to be the World War I Memorial, check to see if there is an update on the project’s completion. LOE 19: Induction – Gen Pershing What: Induct Gen. John J. Pershing into the ROA Minuteman Hall of Fame (posthumously) during the 2022 National Convention. Comments: • Consider creating a Pershing Award downstream, which would require Awards Board approval. • Possibly invite National Society of Pershing Rifles and Pershing Angels • Cost only includes 5th floor plaque with installation Suspense: 10/1/2022 Cost: $200 28
LOE 20: NYSE Closing Bell Ringing by ROA What: Ringing of NY Stock Exchange Closing Bell by Department of New York (DONY) Representatives in October 2022. Comments: Arrange live video feed/link; possibly including the NY Army and Air National Guard Chiefs and Sergeant Majors and NY Naval Militia Commander, as these organizations contain members of the USNR, USMCR, and USCGR Suspense: 10/31/2022 Cost: No cost 29
LOE 21: NYSE Closing Bell Ringing by ROA What: Ringing of NY Stock Exchange Closing Bell by ROA President, ED, and DONY President in October 2023, to celebrate Citizen-Warrior Day and the conclusion of our 100th year of serving those who serve.
