Winter/Spring Program 2022 CULTURAL ARTS def·i·ni·tion /ˌdefəˈniSH(ə)n/ The Carmen Durazo Cultural Art Center is under the Calexico Recreation Department and is responsible for directing and advancing the artistic, cultural and historic environment of the City of Calexico. From visual and performing arts to public art programs, this center works in partnership with the ever-growing community of talented local artists that call Calexico home. Be Part of it, try it. Youth Programs Ballet Ages: 3-7 yrs. Days: Mondays & Thursdays Time: 5:00-5:50 p.m Instructor: Laura A. Vargas Fee: Free (Sponsored by the Calexico Arts Council) Starts: Jan. 10, 2022 Participants will learn to stretch, strengthen their legs and learn the ballet position. Note: Class will be in Spanish. Face masks are required. Required for class: Leotard, tights, ballet shoes, yoga mat, and hair picked up in a bun. Polynesian Dance Ages: 6-11 yrs. Days: Mondays & Thursdays TIME: 6:00 p.m. - 6:50 p.m Instructor: Laura A. Vargas Fee: Free (Sponsored by the Calexico Arts Council) Starts: Jan. 10, 2022 Participants will learn the basic steps of Hula and Ori Tahiti. Participants will learn to dance an Otea (Ori Tahiti). Note: Class will be in Spanish. Face masks are required. Required for class: T-shirt, pareo wrap, hair picked up in a bun. Calexico Anime Club Ages: 12-17 yrs. Days: Thursdays Time: 4:00 p.m. - 4:50 p.m. Instructor: Eduardo Quintero Fee: Free Starts: Jan. 13, 2022 Limited Space. Facemasks are required. Anime Lovers Unite! Are you an Anime fanatic and want to share your passion? Join us to discuss your favorite series. 4
Youth & Adult Programs Keyboard/Piano I & II Ages: 10 yrs. and over - Wednesdays Time: Piano I 5:00 - 5:50 p.m Piano II 6:00 - 6:50 p.m Instructor: David Valdez Fee: Free (Sponsored by the Calexico Arts Council) Starts: Jan. 12, 2022 Piano I: A practical and simple method will be used in which students will learn the basics. Piano II: Students will acquire the skills and tools to play a musical melody. Note: Class will be in Spanish. Required for class: keyboard with batteries. Face masks are required. Guitar I & II Ages: 12 yrs. and over Guitar I : Mondays & Wednesdays 4:00 -4:50 p.m. Guitar II: Wednesdays 7:00 - 7:50 p.m. Instructor: Luis Delgado Fee: Free (Sponsored by the Calexico Arts Council) Starts: Jan. 10, 2022 Guitar I: Students will learn the basics such as chords, finger strumming and will learn to play two songs. Guitar II: Will continue practicing hand coordination and fluidity, learn musical circles and two songs. Note: Class will be in Spanish. Required for class: guitar. Face masks are required. 5
Beginning elements of acting Ages: 13 yrs. and over Days: Thursdays Time: 7:00 p.m. - 8:20 p.m. Instructor: Bill Hodge Fee: Free (Sponsored by the Calexico Arts Council) Starts: Jan. 13, 2022 Excellent opportunity to gain the ability to express yourself effectively. Will present the elements of acting and improvisation on several levels, including acting games. Face masks are required. Inclusive Arts Ages: 8+ Days: Every other Tuesday (Starting Jan. 11th) Time: 1:00 - 1:50 p.m. Fee: Free (Sponsored by the Calexico Arts Council) Instructor: Eduardo Quintero Class Dates: Jan. 11, 25, Feb. 8, 22, Mar. 8, 22, Apr. 5, May. 3, 17, 2022. Created for people with special needs, this class will help develop artistic abilities to promote personal development. Note: Art materials will be provided. Face masks are required. 6
Adult & Senior Programs Folkloric Dance Ages: Adult & Seniors Days: Tuesdays & Thursdays Time: 10:30 a.m. - 11:20 a.m. Instructor: Socorro Mendiola Fee: Free (Sponsored by the Calexico Arts Council) Starts: Jan. 11, 2022. Learn about this beautiful dance and its techniques; arm, head, and waist movement, stomping, and turns. Class will be in spanish. Face masks are required. Hula Dance For Health Ages: Adult & Seniors Days: Mondays & Thursdays Time: 11:30 -12:20 a.m. Instructor: Laura A. Vargas Fee: Free (Sponsored by the Calexico Arts Council) Starts: Jan. 10, 2022 Participants will learn to coordinate their bodies to dance the Hula. This class helps with body movement coordination and provides an excellent opportunity to stay healthy. Class will be in Spanish. Face masks are required. 7
Wellbeing Thru Art & Color Ages: Adults & Seniors Days: Wednesdays Time: 11:30 a.m. - 2:20 p.m. Instructor: Angelica Angulo Fee: Free (Sponsored by the Calexico Arts Council) Starts: Jan. 12, 2022 A course in which students will learn the acrylic painting technique based on three different art projects. Range of colors, textures, blurring of color range, handling of light and shadow and more! This will be a creative fun space for you to be! Class will be in Spanish. Face masks are required. Paint Night Ages: Adults & Seniors Days: 1st Tuesday of the Month (Starting Feb. 1st) Time: 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. Instructor: Eduardo Quintero Fee: Free (Sponsored by the Calexico Arts Council) Class dates: Feb. 1, Mar. 1, Apr. 5, May. 3, 2022 This course will encourage the creative development of adults through drawing and painting classes.
