This course is being delivered under the Back to QQI Level 5 Early Childhood Care & Education Education Initiative Programme (BTEI). It will run from September 2018 - May 2019 over four mornings per week (plus work experience). This one year course is designed to facilitate students who wish to work in a variety of early childhood care settings including nursery, crèche, pre-school, Montessori, etc. Progression to QQI Level 6 course leading to a supervisory qualification in childcare is an option with this course. Interviews will be held on Monday, 17th September and the course will begin on Monday, 24th September (subject to getting sufficient numbers). This Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) course QQI Level 5 Tourism and Business will be delivered over four mornings per week from September 2018 - May 2019 (plus work experience). This course is aimed at providing the student with an understanding of the hospitality industry, while providing an opportunity to either go on to further education or employment within the business sector. This Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) course QQI Level 5 Healthcare Support will be delivered over 4 mornings per week from September 2018 - May 2019 (plus work experience). This course will be of interest to people who would like to gain vocational skills in Healthcare so as to be in a position to gain employment within areas such as Health Service Executive, Nursing Home(s) or Home Help. It also ’qualifies’ people to apply for General and Psychiatric Nursing with the Institutes of Technology (Second year). Kenmare Adult Education Centre 13th September Open Day will host an Open Day on Thursday, 13th September. The Centre will be open from 10.00am to 4.00pm and 7.00 to 9.00pm. You are invited to come and see our facilities, talk to our tutors, and find out more about our courses.
These ‘stand-alone’ subjects are run under QQI Level 3-5 Certified Single Subjects the Back to Education Initiative Programme (BTEI) and are aimed at combating educational disadvantage but are open to all. People with a Social Welfare payment, Medical Card, or who left school before completing their Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) do not pay for BTEI courses. All others pay a fee of either €75 (QQI 3&4) or €150 (QQI 5&6). An outline of each course is available from the Centre upon request. Single Subject List - QQI Level 3-5: Spreadsheets: (QQI 3) Thursday, 10.00am - 2.00pm This 12-week course would suit anyone wishing to become confident and skilled to work in an office environment. It is also useful as a stepping stone to further office administration courses. (QQI Level 5 will be on offer in Spring 2019 to facilitate progression.) Painting: (QQI 4) Friday, 10.00am - 2.00pm On this course you will learn the basics of painting in several different media, plus the use of colour. Learning to record from observation subjects in natural and built environment, and a little history. Combined Materials: (QQI 5) Monday, 10.00am - 12.30pm This course will combine different materials in order for them to be used in painting, photography, pottery, woodwork, etc. It will be of particular interest to those who already have a good grounding in painting and pottery.
Single Subject List - QQI Level 3-5 (contd.): QQI Level 3-5 Certified Single Subjects Psychology: (QQI 5) Friday,10.00am - 2.00pm This module introduces learners to an understand- ing of Psychology and to the core principles and concepts within the discipline. Identify therapies, interventions, practical and ethical boundaries of each psychological perspective. Bookkeeping: (QQI 5) (Manual & Computerised) Monday and Wednesday,10.00am - 1.00pm Learn the importance of good bookkeeping for a small business, what records Revenue need you to keep, and how to do this both manually, and using a computer package. First Aid Responder: (QQI 5) Monday, 2.30pm - 5.30pm This course meets the requirements of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work regulations. (6 people only.) Plant Propagation: (QQI 5) Friday, (10.00am - 2.00pm) This course, working with the principles of propagation, will focus on grafting, dormancy, provenance, storage etc. and demonstrating same by growing examples in the garden. QQI Certified: Self-Financing Courses Information Technology Skills: (QQI Level 4) Tuesday, 6.30pm - 9.30pm. €235 (12 weeks) This is a QQI certified course delivered in the evening over a 12-week period. Non-Certified: Painting and Drawing for Beginners: Wednesday, 2.30pm - 4.30pm. €75 (6 sessions) This is an introductory course and will introduce people to the basics of painting and drawing. Everyday Healthcare with Homeopathy: Wednesday, 10.00am - 12.00pm. €75 (6 sessions) This course introduces people to the benefits of homeopathy while gaining knowledge of how to prescribe remedies for colds, fevers, headaches, etc. Ceramics: Wednesday, 2.30pm - 5.30pm. €90 (5 Sessions) This course will introduce people to working with clay by way of pinch-pot, hand and slab techniques. Throwing on a wheel to make form objects like bowls, etc. while gaining basic knowledge in slab construction, extrusion, colouring and glazing. Tapestry: Tuesday, 2.30pm - 5.00pm. €90 (6 Sessions) Tapestry weaving is a traditional handcraft on a wooden frame to produce such things as varied as pictures, wall hangings, cushions, flowers, birds, animals, human figures, etc. WordPress: Tuesday, 6.30pm - 9.30pm. €90 (5 Sessions) Learn how to create a website using the web’s most popular content management system, WordPress. (This course will be followed by an online shopping course in January 2019.)
Introduction to Botanical Illustration: Self-Financing Courses Wednesday, 2.30pm - 4.30pm. €75 (6 weeks) This course will cover the fundamental techniques of botanical illustration including drawing and painting, while using graphic pencils and watercolour paints. It will cover line drawing, shading and watercolour techniques. Children’s Book Illustration for Adults: Tuesday, 2.30pm - 4.30pm. €75 (6 weeks) This course will be looking at basic narrative structure, character development, storyboard and elements of design including colour, space and shape. Spinning: Tuesday, 2.30pm - 4.30pm. €75 (6 weeks) Learn the process of how to spin your own yarn, fibre preparation, methods of hand spinning and finishing your yarns. Animal Identification and Submitting Records - Logging Ireland’s Wildlife: (1 day) with Paula Tiller. Kenmare Adult Education Centre Kenmare Adult Education Centre provides Department of Education and Skills programmes and courses for the Greater Kenmare area. It offers courses from basic skills (literacy) to QQI Level 6 . Note: All courses on offer in this brochure are subject to funding being made available by SOLAS - The Further Education and Training Authority. (www.qqi.ie) Adult Basic Education (ABE) If you are interested in returning to education to improve your reading, writing, spelling or maths, or perhaps you would like some help with form filling or letter writing, we can offer one-to-one help from a voluntary tutor. We also provide a variety of small group classes. All classes are held in friendly surroundings in the Centre. This is a free and confidential service.
