GARDENS OF SANTA CLOTILDE (LLORET DE MAR) The Santa Clotilde Gardens are located in a place of great beauty. This wonderful garden was planted on a cliff with stunning views over the sea, a true example of the spirit that formed the nineteenth-century movement in Catalonia, being Eugeni d'Ors was a brilliant reference. The Gardens, designed in the ancient, soft and at the same time austere gardens of the Italian Renaissance, were made by Nicolau Rubió i Tudurí at the age of twenty-eight, when his admiration for his master in Gardening art, Forestier, was still in full heyday. Here, Rubió put aside the confusing Spanish-Arabic lesson among the images of the French garden that Forestier teaches him through collaboration in the gardens of Montjuïc, and moves towards the recovery of the Italian Renaissance spirit, as the es- sence of modernity. GIRONA Girona, is one of the most historic places in Spain, it was founded by the Romans and later on taken by the Arabs and the Franks. Having coexisted in Girona different cultures and religions, the city amazes any visitor thanks to its beautiful architectural art. Both, the new side and the old town, offers many options to feel the pleasant sensation of getting lost among its streets and immersing visitors them salves in the traditional customs and culture of the area. The visit allows you to explore more than two thousand years of history from two fortified enclosures: the Força Vella and the medieval widening. The first corresponds to the Roman foundation and the second one, to the extension of the walls during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The many monuments that have reached our days preserve remarkable artistic riches. The attractiveness of Girona is completed with the suggestive Jewish quarter, named in our language “Call”, the beautiful streets, the arcaded squares and the exultant baroque spaces. BANYOLES LAKE Lake Banyoles is the largest lake in Catalonia that was created more than 250,000 years ago. The tectonic movements that created the Pyrenees formed in turn a fault that in subsequent rain and river erosions, gave rise to this lake area. It is also considered a unique space for its great landscape and geological and ecological value. IPA WC2020
BESALÚ The town of Besalú is located in an important and traditional crossroads. “Bisuldunum”, its original name, was a fortress between two rivers. It was the site of an important independent county. It has a medieval historical-artistic enclosure considered one of the most well preserved in Spain. The old church of the monastery of Sant Pere and the church of Sant Vicenç, where a lateral Gothic chapel dedicated to Vera Cruz is conserved, both of them built in the 12th century, are part of this set as well as the facade of the old hospital church of Sant Julià, the house of Cornellà and the Gothic hall of the Cúria Real. The entire Jewish quarter stands out, especially the Miqvé or ritual baths house of Besalú, which together with the one of Girona, are the only Jewish bathing enclosure discovered so far in the Iberian Peninsula. It is a stone house with a barrel vault, typically Romanesque, from the 12th century. The majestic Romanesque bridge over the river is another of the magnificent vestiges of Besalú County, which must be appreciated not only for its monuments, but also for the medieval atmosphere offered by its streets full of memories. TEATRE-MUSEU DALÍ The Dalí Theatre-Museum, the largest surrealist facility in the world, occupies the building of the former Municipal Theatre, a 19th century building destroyed at the end of the Civil War. On the basis of these ruins, Dalí decided to create his museum. A visit to the Museum represents a unique opportunity to observe, live and enjoy the work and thought of the genius. IPA WC2020
CALELLA DE PALAFRUGELL Old fishing village, formed by several coves, which still retains its charm, is one of the few cores of the Costa Brava where bohemian atmosphere that was breathed in the towns of the area is still maintained, before mass tourism arrived. Its narrow streets, houses with sloping tile roofs and some traditional two-story fishermen’s houses still survive. This small fishing town is located on a rocky coast, formed by small coves, ideal for walks or excursions. Its origin as a town dates back to the 18th century, when pirates began to arrive and then the fishermen of Palafrugell decided to settle on the coast to protect it. The first document about that matter is dated in 1746. PALS Pals is one of the most charming villages to be visited on the Costa Brava. Located on the top of a mountain, it was built around a fortress and still preserve its splendid medieval spirit, so, today, visiting Pals is like travelling back in time. Historical, urban and cultural heritage have been maintained and preserved over the centuries, so visiting this town is a unforgettable experience. IPA WC2020
