Dinner and overnight at the deluxe safari tents of Primate Lodge Kibale. The Forest is home to the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa, as we’ll quickly find out. Enjoy a guided nature walk in the tropical rainforest in search of the wild chimpanzee, red tailed monkey, black and white colobus monkey, and many others. After a hearty lunch we transfer to the Bigodi Swamp for another, very different nature walk, where the focus will be on both birds and primates. The Bigodi Swamp walk is an initiative of the local community. Dinner and overnight at Primate Lodge Kibale. (B-L-D) Day 6: QENP – Bwindi National Park (4-5 hrs) After breakfast we head south, passing through the southern sector of the national park (if road conditions allow) and into Ishasha, famous for its tree climbing lions. After a short game drive in Ishasha we continue to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, driving through verdant countryside, small settlements, and the occasional tea or coffee plantation. We can expect to arrive in Bwindi, home of the endangered mountain gorillas, this afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Mahogany Springs. (B-L-D) Mahogany Springs Mahogany Springs is one of the newest lodges in Bwindi National Park. Located on the pristine waters of the Munyanga River and facing the Impenetrable forest, the natural setting of Mahogany Springs is beautiful. Day 7: Gorilla Tracking The highlight of your safari: a meeting with the gentle giants of Bwindi! Hikers will especially love the tracking in the beautiful ecosystem of the park. Expect to walk a long distance in steep and muddy conditions, sometimes with rain overhead, before you encounter any gorillas. But whatever the travails en route, the experience of observing a gorilla family at close range as they eat, play and rest makes it all worthwhile. Those who prefer not to participate in the gorilla tracking can go for a guided forest walk or explore the surroundings with the Buhoma Village Walk. Dinner and overnight at Mahogany Springs (B-L-D). Day 8: Bwindi – Lake Mburo National Park (4-5 hrs) After breakfast we depart the impenetrable forest of Bwindi and head to Lake Mburo National Park, where you enjoy an afternoon boat ride. Following the boat safari, we drive to Mihingo Lodge for an early dinner before departing on a night game drive in an open Landrover with spot light. This special game drive of 2-3 hours provides a good chance of seeing the elusive leopard as well as other nocturnal animals. Overnight at Mihingo Lodge (B-L-D). Mihingo Lodge Mihingo Lodge is a peaceful and exclusive retreat adjacent to Lake Mburo National Park. Its ten rooms are built on wooden platforms on stilts, each covered by a thatched roof, and housing a Gane and Marshall Tel: +44 (0)1822-600-600 e-mail: info@ganeandmarshall.com website: www.ganeandmarshall.com
