These pages are PACKED with opportunities for you to try something new, get outdoors, be brave and lead like a Girl Scout. The guide is organized by region—use the map on page two to help you find opportunities close to home quickly. But don't stop there! We encourage you to get out and explore the entire council. There are activities in every region! You'll find a bunch of helpful indicators throughout this guide to help you find activities for your grade level, activities with special opportunities like a fun patch or a badge to earn, and activities that you can pay for with Cookie/Nut Credits! All attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about Girl Scout Silver and Gold Awards. Registration now open! b CADETTE / SENIOR / Forest to Foam Multi-day Overnight: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Southern Oregon $100 deposit AMBASSADOR 7/15/18 - 7/19/18 Visit the "banana belt" of the southern Oregon coast. Enjoy hiking, beach combing and adventure as you explore the area. Sights include Jedediah Smith Redwoods, Harris Beach and Cape Blanco State Parks. Other possibilities include kayaking, a jet boat trip, an aquarium tour and so much more! Participating girls will meet for a phone conference prior to the trip to design the details of their experience. Estimated base cost per girl is $250. Price may increase depending on which activities girls decide to do. An initial $100 deposit is required to register. Girls will need to complete a travel readiness screening in order to participate. Go on an ALASKAN ADVENTURE in 2019 Explore nature at its finest with this once in a lifetime excursion to Alaska! See whales breaching near the Kenai Peninsula and go sea kayaking in Resurrection Bay. Take a bus into the backcountry at Denali and go whitewater rafting and horseback riding. Check out impressive glaciers, miles of virtually untouched wilderness and explore the town of Anchorage. Join this patrol and choose your own adventure while you make lifelong friends and experience Alaska. This five-day overnight camp is hosted by U.S. Forest Service staff. There are two ways to participate: tent camping at Fish Lake for the week or three days of wilderness backpacking plus two days of tent camping at Fish Lake. Would you like to learn how to teach these skills to other Girl Scouts? Then this weekend is for you! Spend your first day progressively building skills and gaining confidence in archery, canoeing or outdoor skills. That's right - in Oregon, every registered voter can mail in or drop off their ballot instead of standing in line at a polling place. But then what? On the night of the May primary election, you can get an up-close look at how ballots are processed in your county at the local elections office. Juniors may be able to complete a step toward earning the Inside Government badge and Seniors may be able to complete a step toward earning the Behind the Ballot badge. b ALL AGES Garden to Fork at Whistle Stop Farm 5/30/18 3:30 - 5 p.m. Whistle Stop Farms $7.50/girl Bend, OR Learn about the joys of gardening in central Oregon with this hands-on event at the family-owned Whistle Stop Farm. What types of things grow well here? Use your artistic eye to notice and observe nature's shapes, colors, patterns, textures and sounds. Explore a variety of natural materials and studio art supplies during this workshop. Dress for art making and the outdoors as we will spend time in the studio as well as outside in the elements. a DAISY / BROWNIE / Nature Detectives at Sunriver 5/19/18 10 - 11:30 a.m. Sunriver Nature Center $12.50/girl JUNIOR Nature Center Sunriver, OR Join us for a special scavenger hunt around the Sunriver Nature Center as we become nature detectives! You'll first use your senses to make observations about plants and wildlife in your nature journal. Perfect your detective work by learning how to use biology tools such as binoculars, compasses, nets, microscopes and more. Explore the Nature Center after the program. a Did You Know? Outdoor Journeys can be Prerequisites for Highest Awards! Thinking about going for your Girl Scout Bronze, Silver or Gold Award? The new Outdoor Journeys are a great way to complete your award prerequisites (STEM Journeys too)! The prerequisites are as follows: Bronze Award: One Junior Journey. Our educational program explores the science of color optics and how artists and graphic designers manipulate our perception of color. Be ready for lots of happy surprises when you print your paintings with the hand-crank etching presses. You'll be inspired to think like a citizen scientist as you learn observation skills using all five of your senses, create a field notebook to collect your observation data and then analyze all of the important data that you collect for scientists. But in 1930s small town America, a Polish immigrant doesn’t easily fit in. When Maddie’s best friend Peggy starts to tease Wanda, Maddie knows it isn’t right. She soon realizes that allowing her friend to be a bully is just as bad as acting that way herself and bravely stands up to the scorn of her classmates, making an unlikely friend in the process.
