Dear Parish Family, On Holy Saturday April 7, 2018 the hillside next to our church collapsed, leaving over 30 families homeless. In this moment, the Lord was calling our community to action. You responded. And your response began new relationships with our neighbors, and new ministries within our Church. Today our neighborhood and the entire world are faced with the threat of the COVID- 19. As He did in April of 2018, the Lord is calling us to live out our faith by loving our neighbors. Once again, you are responding. Many of us have taken time to look in on one another within our Church family. A small group of non-high-risk members of our Outreach Ministry Team have intensified our monthly distribution of prepared meals. The same team also increased the number of Food Pantries we have each month. We are responding to our neighbors’ needs, but this calling is two-fold. The Lord has allowed this lock-down to occur in the middle of Great Lent. By doing so, He has made time in our busy schedules for the pillars of our fasting: prayer, repentance, alms- giving, and dietary changes. We can choose to spend our new found time binge- watching TV shows, or we can use it to examine our hearts, meditate on Scripture, and grow closer to Him. Let us respond to this as well! God is directing us to be attentive to the needs of our neighbors, and to His Word. Let us also be attentive to the words of our medical professionals and spiritual leaders by following to the protocols in place until directed otherwise. Pray for one another, pray for the whole world, and may these circumstances grant us an even more spiritually fruitful journey to the Resurrection. See you at (Virtual) Church! Fr. Dean
A Note from President and Stewardship Chairman Steve Markantone Interesting Times There is an old Chinese curse “may you live in interesting Times”. In the past several years we have seen several interesting phenomenon. Nothing can be more interesting than the effects of the coronavirus. At times it seems as if everything is out of our control. We experience episodes of frustration, anger and self-pity. It is at these times that it is most important that we remain committed to our core beliefs in God, the church, and each other. When you cannot control what is happening. Challenge yourself to control the way you respond to what is happening. This may be a great time to practice the lessons we learn both in the Bible as well as in church. Random acts of kindness either a smile, calling an old friend, or helping someone that is shut in; can go a long way. Ypapanti is a special community, if you are in need, please do not hesitate to reach out to anyone in our church. I am sure that they will be more than glad to lend a hand. Who knows you reaching out may just be what they needed as well.

HOUSE AND BUSINESS BLESSINGS 2020 Every year, on the Feast of Theophany, Orthodox Christians around the world have a blessing of the waters to celebrate the Baptism of Christ and the revealing of the Holy Trinity to mankind. We then receive the blessing of this Holy Water to renew ourselves in Christ and to remind ourselves that through Christ all things are again made clean. We also extend this blessing to our homes and businesses to wipe away temptations and attacks that might lead us away from Christ. If you wish to have Fr. Dean bless your home and/or business, please complete the form below and return it to the Church.
